Complete novice here. !doh!
Just bought my first digital camera second hand after all these years Canon 550d. I have some great pictures but found I'm up around 5 mbytes with some images. When I try to send them via e-mail or load them to a web site it says 0nly 1mb reduce size. Is there some free software that I can download to do this? Or could someone suggest some way of doing it? Sorry to be such a plank! Thanks in advance !happy!

Good afternoon young fella,
There be loads of different "digital imaging software" packages about.
If you want the "Granddaddy" of them all, splash out around 600 quid for the full "Photoshop CS" !shocked!
If that's a bit too heavy, around ?70 will get you the "cut down" (but still excellent) "Photoshop Elements".
I don't know how good it is but you could also try "Serif PhotoPlus", have a look here . It's a huge $9.99 or you could also try the free version (downloadable from the same page).
Then there's "Paint" . No idea what it's like so again, no guarantees.
You can only but try them !thumbsup!

Firstly make exact copies of all your pics and place them in different folders. So for instance, say you have a folder of pics called 'Georgies Juicy Juggs'. Well make another folder called 'Georgies Juicy Juggs Reduced' and copy all the pics from the former folder so you have two copies of each pic. Then just alter the pics in the reduced folder. That way you'll still have the original quality pics if anything goes wrong. You can just copy and paste an original back into your reduced folder. This is because most compressive picture formats are lossy, so every time you edit and save an image it's quality is reduced in the compression process and you can't get it back.
As for software, I'd try out photoscape from here> . It's free and you can play around with the editing tools until you decide you want to splash out on more professional software. For reducing the pics for the web consider the resolution size and jpeg compression settings.

If you want something very simple to use, try Mihov's Image Resizer.

Thanks to everyone for taking time to advise me. I just wanted a free/cheap way just to start until I get a better idea of what i want/need. I will have alook at evrything you suggested.
My Dragon has a fat face. Hope she isn't looking over my shoulder !shocked!
When I say fat I mean rounded. My darling isn't fat. Is there a product that you mentioned that could in some way stretch her head or squash it from the sides to make her appear thinner???
Great forums here. Lots of porn and knowledgeble people with good advice !drink!
Unlike the Pravda english forum. Some of the anti British stuff there is unbelievable. Makes you realise that evryone the world over hates the Brits.

'Unlike the Pravda english forum'.
Just had a look at it. On first impression it would seem to be largely a home for holocaust deniers and outright racists.
Back on topic, I used to use Photodraw which was bundled with 'Word' in the old days. Straight forward, simple to use, did everything I needed and more. I dont think its readily available any more.

Just downloaded it and it is true to say I am going to have many happy hours playing with it. Though it might not have the fine adjustments and depth available in CS3 (thank goodness), its more than adequate for general use. Well worth checking out. Thanks Sam.
