o/t i guess. distribution

reading an article in the guardian online supplement 05/09, there is an article on making your own film using equipment available from the high street and a home computer.it explains a few technical details and seems to be saying that fairly high quality results can be had. the point i`m trying to make in a roundabout way if it is possible to come up with a respectable product is the only thing that is stopping me and my fellow forumites from becoming potential millionaires is the problem of distribution. has anyone become not so much rich from advertising their homemade wares in the back of magazines but at least got their production costs back with a bit on top. if this is not the way then how do other people get their stuff onto the market. is the internet the answer? bearing in mind the law of the land and such what are the chances of ending up in prison or having your stock or equipment confiscated? i`m not saying people could make a living out of homemade amateur porn but could it be a useful sideline. i`m sure this subject has been broached before but all i`m saying is that it is within the means of quite a few of us to make decent films it seems to me the hard bit is getting it "out there" any thoughts?

Yes, foget it. The only thing stopping anyone becoming a millionaires in porn nowadays is lack of interest from the great buying public.

that`s what i thought as well, though the point i was trying to make or am trying to make now is based on the old adage you need money to make money only this time you need distibution to be able to distibute, if you understand what i`m trying to say. i myself have no intention of going into the business.

Of course it would certainly help if you had 90 or so shops and one or two mail order companies ready to take your wares. But even so the punters are not "gagging for it" anymore, so talk of becoming a millionaire is hugely optimistic and unrealistic. Anyone can make a few quid in a growing market, but the main fortunes have already been made and that door of opportunity closed a number of years ago. So, even if you had the ideal distribution network the best you could hope for nowadays would be to make a good living. The main players are now sitting pretty. All they need to do is tick over and maintain their poistion.

Dibble,s right of course,Its all been done, and the main players
have moved into the new markets, ie: internet porn, download complete movies etc, course, one of the other reasons as has been stated recently, one person buys a film/dvd, copies it many times and sells it thru a free ads paper passing it off as a original.
As I have said before a lot of the large record companies are in the process right now, of setting up virtual rental companies
where you either pay a small amount and rent the tune for a pre-set time, or pay more and download to keep. Definitly will happen to mainstream movies, and porn will follow.

i think the general public are aware they can get their little 2-3 minute clips and pics for free on the net and therefore have no interest paying high prices for a dvd.

Serious porn fans will also probably use usenet and once again bypass the need to buy anything.
