Oldham and Saddleworth Byelection

I know it is only one byelection and that the government tends never to win byelections but
1. Labour won the highest proportion of the vote ever obtained in this seat.
2. The Tories percentage of the vote was more than halved and dropped to the worst they have ever done by a long way in this seat.
3. Even though a lot of his literature didnt even mention he was a Lib Dem and he had successfully brought a case against Phil Woolas, that still wasnt enough to prevent Elwyn Griffiths losing to pretty much the biggest overall majority that Labour have had in the seat.
4. It is a fair assumption that a number of Tories voted Lib Dem to try and bolster Cleggie and his party, without whom the Tories wouldnt be in power and the Lib Dems didnt come anywhere near.
Result, I think!
Cheers
