Back in the 70s when no bridge or cricket ground in London was safe from having GD's supporters applying 'George Davis is Innocent' to it, I remember seeing a report that someone, perhaps an off duty copper, had added 'Oh no he isn't' to one on a railway bridge.

The judgement doesn't quite say innocent, it says the conviction was unsafe. I think this was evident at the time which is why he was released.
So don't know what good this will do him but I am pleased to be reminded of the days when he was a household name.

I remember the campaign to free him in the 70s, his name was dubbed everywhere in London at the time, its taken a long time to clear his name...

I wonder if there's any trace left of the slogan on a bridge or wall somewhere.

"its taken a long time to clear his name..."

As his barrister said, if George Davis hadn't been caught robbing a bank in 1977 the 1975 conviction for robbing a bank might have been quashed years ago.

Yes, that certainly didn't help. That said, it must be galling, even for a villain, to be done for one you didn't actually do. If nothing else it might have involved a police stitch up, as they thought it was Davis' turn.
