I wonder who takes responsibility in these organisations? They get paid top money but at the same time are able to walk away when the shit hits the fan. They win every way. This evil cow, can look forward to a retirement in luxury, there is no natural justice in this country anymore.

Public sector, Jim. No-one is ever responsible for anything. "Lessons will be learned" is he best you'll get, before they wander off to top up their final salary pension. (Taxpayer funded, of course)

for the sake of playing devil's advocate here, isnt the fault with Balls etc who were too quick to sack her without anything like a proper process?
However awful you are at your job, shouldnt there be a proper process that is gone through before you get sacked? Otherwise anyone in the public service could just get laid off at the whim of a politician

I think the expression, "The buck stops here". does not apply to those in public service or in merchant banks.
Ed balls was right to boot her out, she's the boss and her department had already fucked up. That's why she got big money, to take responsibility!

I was reading about how Apple functions a few weeks ago. Every project and sub-project has what they term a DRI (Directly Responsible Individual). Everyone knows who's in charge of what, and cries of "I didn't know" from the DRI don't wash, as it's their duty to know everything thats happening under their name.
They get the bonuses and share options when things are a success, they get the shitstorm and the sack when things go wrong. Accountability.
