The gay sergent or whatever rank he is in The Bill, is a character based on Officer Dibble, allegedly.

That is a monstrous slur on the good officer, he,s a good cop
reliable, and never leaves his friends behind!

Officer Dibble gay? - Well' fondle my truncheon, what a suggestion!
The good Officer may be 'bent' - what peeler worth his salt isn't - but certainly not gay or he would be wasting his time causing aggro round 'ere. He'd be off strutting his stuff on "BlueBoysinBondage.com" or "Truncheons-R-Us.net" and the like.
