Why is being a "Porn junkie" so bad anyway? Don't all sorts of hobbies impose on relationships? What about the "junkies" of fishing, model making, train spotting, bird watching, plane spotting,rambling, hang gliding, rock climbing, pot holing, etc etc.

How come these pastimes don't get any flak in the media?

People addicted to heroin are junkies, other people have hobbies.

I think the term "Junkie" is being used, in the article as a metaphor to describe someone being obsessed beyond what is considered, "Reasonable" with an activity. In this case the viewing of porn. However it is perfectly possible to be unreasonably obsessed with the other activities that I mentioned.

Why not do an expose of crazed train spotters who drive their wives mad by being out at all hours and talking about nothing but rolling stock? Not quite as sleazy and interesting as a "Porn junkie" is it?

I must agree with Mr Slip on this one.....and I accept the young man may
be watching an awful lot of porn and thus his hobby has become a kind
of addiction, but so what....in theory it mean he wanks a lot and it might
be stifling his chances of a genuine emotional encounter.....but lunatic
train spotters or glue sniffers have that problem also.
I would add that I think to put yourself in a national paper as a "sex
addict", with family and friends of both sexes (or your work mates) seeing
it shows him to be a chap of quite considerable courage and integrity.
