Most modern porn leaves me cold (too much silicone, too many tats, too many cloned models who look like they've come off some production line in Eastern Europe, far too many scenes that lack any eroticism) but this is just the ramblings of a Harperson-esque man-hater with a chip on her shoulder.

Some really good responses from people after it. She clearly doesn't have a clue about recent developments in porn, the rise of 'amateur' and tube sites especially. Still, the Guardian is a broad church, there's room for many points of view in it.

Lower down the page you give there is a thorough demolition of her methodology, or lack of, her arrogance towards dissent, the almost total lack of citations or evidence for her sweeping and uninformed generalisation etc.

Yes Andy, she is agenda-driven and talks uninformed, biased and flawed bollocks (porn producers are just money-hungry exploiters of helpless women / female porn performers are all being "abused" / anyone who consumes porn is a rapist, child abuser or sex killer waiting to happen etc. etc.).

The problem is though that because of people like her, this is presented as gospel by the mainstream meeja, is then accepted as such by large sections of the the chattering classes, and this in turn is picked up on by do-gooders in positions of power like Claire Perry MP.

She refers to seeing saliva, semen, faeces and vomit 'on set' which gives the impression of being an insider when in fact she's talking about watching dvds.

If I reviewed mainstream films and referred to things i'd seen 'on set' I think it would make me appear more involved and therefore authoritative and 'reliable' and 'credible' than would be the case.
