I don't think many here would object to the sentiment behind the article, that children should be protected from accessing or stumbling across porn on the net, and it should be the parents responsibility to ensure that happens. Most legitimate producers include some form of net nanny on their sites.
But we also know this will be a disguise for something else, sledgehammer/nut scenario, and will be used and abused by those in power for something it was never intended for, or sold as.
PS Outstanding hypocrisy from Harriet Hatemen if the replies to the second DM link are true!

Not really sure what the fuss is about it is not going to stop anyone on here doing exactly what they are doing now.

Well, as you are now, Zorro, any family or friends who share your wifi cannot tell if you access porn or not. It's private.
If filters are on by default anyone you let use your wifi will be able to tell if you watch porn or not simply by typing in the url of any adult-orientated site and see if it loads. If it loads they know you've specifically gone through the process of having it turned off.......and for only one obvious reason: porn. You've waved bye-bye to your privacy regarding this matter.
This fear of being embarrassed or ashamed by people finding out may lead to many, many people not bothering having the filter turned off. The government are using this shame to clamp down on porn. Of course, some even in porn think this is a great idea because they think it will hep shut down the free porn 'youtube-style' sites or something. They're naive and wrong.

Seriously do you think your friends or family will go to your house log on to your wifi connection to see if you watch porn. Why would they do that? Just does not make sense to me.
Does it matter if people know you watch porn?
It is hard for me to guage this as I have sold porn for 12 years and everyone I know knows what I do and I readily tell them how much I watch and recommend stuff to them, the more open people are about what they watch the less it will be seen as a social stigma, which is what you are saying it is.
The only people I know that have a problem with porn are some of the older generation, and I can't see them coming to your house with an ipad to see if they can connect to porn, it just does not compute for me.

Well he's alienated "traditional Tory voters" (i.e. the 'blue rinse' brigade) over gay marriage so this is his way of trying to woo Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells back into the fold.
It's all part of Call Me Dave's cunning plan to be all things to all men. Sorry - I mean 'people'.

Humor me here guys...i read an article a few weeks back that only about 20% of people who watch porn pay for it, my logic is this new proposed scheme would encourage the serious people who freely already pay to download to do so under a more controlled process.
