O/T Thread numbers

Post by stephen »

Why do some threads appear to have a higher number of posts listed than you find when you open up. Does it mean the phantom posts are in the system somewhere and you might find them if you come back in a while. Sorry if this subject has been aired before my time.

We might find them, but you won't.

When this happens it is usually because a moderator has removed a post but someone has answered it while it was being removed. The reply is in the system but does not appear because it is an answer to a post that is no longer there. When we notice that the numbers of replies given do not match reality (it is usually the case that the numbers are pushed down the list as it were, i.e. right numbers wrong threads), we go looking for such a 'dangling' post and remove it. The numbers then correct themselves.

Thanks for a good clear explanation. What a lot of work you do to run this board and database. So to pose another question, who pays for the site? And is all the work a labour of love ?

Hosting costs are covered by sponsorship by Your Choice. So if readers want to keep the site free, indeed keep the site, etc., etc. ...

Labour of love? Well a hobby/obsession anyway.
