Surgery should always be a last resort and frequent checks are the way to go when detecting certain cancers.

What's stupid about this is that while she's had her breasts and ovaries removed due to being afraid of cancer, she still hasn't refrained from smoking. And given the survival rate for lung cancer is much lower than breast cancer, you'd think the priority would be cutting out the cigarettes first. It's like busying yourself with fixing a few tiles on a leaky roof while ignoring the fire burning in the kitchen - get your priorities right.

I don`t agree lads. She is entitled to do as she choses with her body and
fight cancer risks. I do not think it is a publicity stunt, she has no need of
that, lets face it, she is not Kim Kardashian. Actually, Angelina is slowly
rising in my estimation; she is no better or worse an actress than scores
of other so called glam women, but she has given up much of her time
and income to good causes and the United Nations, while moving on to
direct movies with more skill than she ever showed as an on-screen
performer. Her relationship with Brad Pitt has now lasted several years and
it is not her fault that the World Media find them an attractive couple. In any
event, she seems currently far more interested in directing or producing
projects that interest her than caring what the world - including the likes of
you or me - think. Best of luck to her.

I don't actually find her that attractive. She is far from the world's most beautiful woman as she keeps getting voted. And the fact that she still smokes shows a total lack of brains.

Got to agree there Argie. She is good looking but there are a lot better looking girls out there. I always had a fancy for Michelle Pfeiffer

And as she states in the above, she recognises that there are many ways of dealing with a positive gene test. She took one of those options.

As for the idea that she might be announcing this to keep herself in the public eye, I find that idea bizarre for someone who is already as famous as she is for her UN work as well as film work.

David, she is famous but do I really need to know that she's had bits cut off ? To me it's all about keeping in the public eye.

I say good for her for telling everyone. Yes she's doing it for publicity... just not her own! It's become a news issue BECAUSE it's Angelina Jolie, and as a result women around the world are maybe feeling a little more empowered to take what is, after all, a difficult decision.

In terms of beauty she isn't in the same league as the legendary Danica Collins.
