UK vs "Europe" prices

I have noted vast differences in prices at UK web shops compared to "mainland" ones, for example 18 GBP for Mike Hunter DVDs which are about 12-15 Euro elsewhere. Are there any explanations for these, quite outrageous, UK prices?

In the not too distant past this stuff was illegal in the UK, and the under-the-counter prices included that extra I-might-get-busted surcharge. It will take some time to persuade the traders to come down with their prices.
