Das Kompendium

Hello,
beutelwolf mentioned Das Kompendium in an older topic (
http://www.egafd.com/forum/read.php?f=4&i=27534&t=27482).
I wonder if that is a compendium of german hardcore productions, listing production companies, films, etc.
In Italy, for example, there's a not very easy to find book called "Dizionhard"
listing all the productions (with cast & directors) til 1990.
It would be extremely interesting and useful to know if Germany and other european countries have their own equivalent of that book.
I believe that the greek one could be Erotik Cinema, or am I wrong?
Thanks to anyone knowing something on the subject!

No, it's a web site (currently off-line, they are having some problems with the domain name or something) which is mostly a discussion forum about (collectable) German video releases of all kinds, including porn. Because some people collect videos by label it also has lists of releases of various video labels, sometimes with additional information about those releases.

As far as Greek Erotica & Porn is concerned, there are mainly three basic sources of documentation:
1. The most important source for all Greek Erotic Films shot in the 1970s and up to the early 1980s is definitively
Dimitris KOLIODIMOS?s, Lexiko Ellinikon Tenion apo to 1914 mekhri to 2000 (in Greek language) [English Translation: Lexikon of Greek Movies from 1914 up to 2000], Athens: Militos Publ., 2nd Ed., 2001, 622 pp., ISBN: 960-8460-41-7.
Take a look at the boxcover here: (the 4th book from upwards)
This is actually an encyclopaedia of all Greek films shot since 1914, given in a concise, yet complete, presentation (production year- running time- production company, director, screenwriter, director of photography, composer or creator of the musical soundtrack- main cast members- plot summaries etc). Unfortunately, it doesn?t cover any of the Greek Porn Films (i.e. all hardcore stuff shot after 1982).
All English-speaking guys may consult the international release of its first edition, published by McFarland (see here ): Dimitris Koliodimos, The Greek Filmography, 1914 through 1996, 2 vols, McFarland, 1999 (reedition 2005), 783 pp. softcover, ISBN 978-0-7864-2421-4.
2. Regarding the Greek porn production of the 1980s up to the late 1990s, the indispensable complement of the above-mentioned work is:
Aris DIMITRIOU (Editor), Afstiros Akatallilon. Elliniko Porno: apo tin Omonia sto Alkazar (in Greek language) [English Translation: Strictly forbidden (to minors). Greek Porn: from Omonia to Alkazar Cinemas], Athens: Oxy Publ., 2000, 159 pp., ISBN: 960-8068-44-4.
Take a look at the boxcover here:
Following the example of Koliodimos?s Lexikon (who has also taken part in this project), here we have a very useful work, combining essays from various points of view (cinematography- sociology- history of Greek cinema) and a detailed presentation by title of the biggest (but not all) part of Greek porn films shot between 1982 and 1997. Some important titles of the 1970s are also dealt with, on the basis of their specific interest (ex. the eventuality of a hard version, the mainstream actors featured etc.). Despite the importance of the information supplied, there are a lot of inaccuracies (inherent, in any case, to the cheap character of these porn films and the lack of any trustworthy documentation or other records). So, for instance, as far as the date of release or the true identity of the cast & the director, one must be extremely cautious, since most of the information is given on a first level basis (the film ?fake? credits etc.). A very precious work, the information of which must, though, be systematically counterchecked.
3. An excellent recent publication covering essentially the Greek Erotic film production of the 1970s (but to a less extent also some part of the 1980s porn), is:
Vassos YEORGAS, Greek Erotica. A history in images of Greek Erotic Cinema 1955-1985 (in both Greek & English languages), Athens: Tsagarousianos Publ., 2005, 490 pp., ISBN: 960-8068-44-4.
Take a look at the boxcover here: (the last book from upwards)
A beautiful hardcover ?coffee-table? book about Greek sexploitation (softcore & hardcore), from 1955 to 1985, with almost 500 glossy pages, too many -about 600- colour & b/w rare photos, lobby cards & posters, articles about the genre and many small reviews... Most important is that text is given in both Greek & English. At the end, there is a list of 350 movies of the genre, given also in an English (very approximate) translation, all of them coming with full credits (director, year, cast, producer, running time). Despite the too many inaccuracies as far as the strict film documentation is concerned (no original work here, just copying of the other previous sources), the rare photo material originating from the author?s personal collection is certainly the most powerful element of this publication, moreover as lots of the stills or photos featured in it clearly imply the existence of a much ?harder? stuff, than the one usually displayed in the soft versions of these films.

I should perhaps mention that
Das Kompendium is on-line again, since last month.

Thanks for letting us know that Das Kompendium is on-line again beutelwolf, any help on how to go to the porn related section of the forum for the non german speaking people please? (or is porn mixed with all the rest and doesn't have a specific section? I think it is, sigh..). Thanks

It doesn't have a specific section. I actually like that it's not ringfenced, as it's a sign of accepting porn as part of culture in general. !teacher!
Anyway, of particular interest for egafd-regulars are the threads in the Filmlabel area. These contain publication lists of various German video labels. These include mostly mainstream labels, but hardcore labels are amongst the lot too, e.g. Beate Uhse, Wara, Auriga, UVG, VFL, Mike Hunter, Vulcan, Relax, etc.
A good starting point is the
index for the Filmlabel area, as it hyperlinks to the threads for the specific labels.
Some label lists are text only, but some also have pics.

Ok, thanks. The Filmlabel area (and the index in particular) is indeed the part I've been looking the most, very interesting! Regard the fact that porn doesn't have a specific section I must say you're right about accepting porn as part of culture !wink!
