Dear Chris
I am writing wondering if you may have contacts who might be interested in participating in our forthcoming project for Channel 4.
Century Films have been commissioned by Channel 4 to develop a ?musical documentary? about sex workers in the UK. This might sound like an odd concept but we have a well respected (and multi award winning) history of pioneering and producing films that fit into this genre.
To give you some background... We have recently spent many months filming inmates at Feltham young offender?s prison to produce ?Feltham Sings? - a 1 hour musical documentary for Channel 4, to be broadcast next month. We interviewed and filmed prisoners in ?classic? documentary style, then collaborated with the poet Simon Armitage who (based on our interviews) re-wrote the prisoner?s ?stories? in song. We then filmed the prisoners performing these songs to specially composed tracks. This material was then inter-cut with the previously shot documentary footage to produce a musical documentary!
We have also collaborated with Simon Armitage for a similarly styled film ?Drinking for England? for (BBC 2) about people?s relationship with alcohol. This film won several accolades including the Royal Television Society award for documentary.
The success of these films has prompted Channel 4?s interest in a similarly styled film about sex-workers. We have been thinking about how we can move this genre forward to approach sex-work in a completely original and insightful way and believe this is a great opportunity to produce a really powerful and innovative piece of television.
I would really appreciate some advice on how to find people who may want to participate. Although a bonus, a great singing voice is not essential ? we have worked with people who are not the best singers (using a voice coach) with great results. We are looking for strong characters who are involved in all aspects of sex work ? with a particular focus on porn actors/actresses.
I am grateful for any help you can provide.
If you would rather talk over the phone, my office number is ****************.
Regards
