VHS Conversion PAL to NTSC

I bought a VHS tape on ebay, la moglie del professore, by salieri. I got a good price but turns out to be PAL and wont play on american VCRs. I found conversion companies on the internet but with the price, plus shipping there and back, and what I originally paid, this movie is going to end up very expensive. What can I do? Any suggestions beside throwing it in the trash?

If I could find another copy of it on DVD, Region 1 or 0, I could just buy it and it would be cheaper than trying to play what I have, but I cant find this particular movie anywhere. Help.

Checked any local companies in your area that will do conversions of this type? A lot of photo shops, companies that produce videos for weddings and the like may have equipment that can do conversions for a reasonable price.
Have you contacted seller to see if he has equipment to convert your VHS tape to a DVD-R? Maybe he may be able to accomodate you. If he can do that, there may be no need to send you the VHS tape back to you and reduce shipping costs (A DVD disc is very light and easy to ship in a small envelope...)

Why don't you get a second-hand PAL ready VCR off eBay (cheap I would think) that may prove quite handy in similar situations in the future?
