Isn't it interesting [and amusing, and infuriating] when
governments or self-appointed mouthpieces make such a
fuss about silly things like this that they end up doing
far more damage to their nation's reputation than if they
had kept their traps shut in the first place, and loftily
ignored the [intended or otherwise] slight?
For example, nothing renders Turkey's jurisprudential
and general reputation laughable as much as the law they
have against 'insulting the nation'.
What utter rot; this nonsense should have died out with
duelling-pistols; and it always seems to be those nations
that trumpet the virtues of 'manliness' [for which read
petty aggression, thick moustaches and a disregard for
freedom of speech]- and one is left wondering whether
perhaps they protest too much [img]

The Borat/Kazakhstan thing was another silly instance-
nobody with half a brain took Cohen's lampoon seriously.
Yes, it was insulting, in a juvenile sort of way, but all
they did with their rabid response was to descend to his
level- after all, picking such an easy target did him little
credit when there were far tougher challenges around-
would he have had the
cojones [especially as a Hebrew
himself] to have satirised, say, Muslims, in similar vein?
Hmmmm.... apparently not.
