Condoms and VMD go hand in hand and it has been that way for quite some time now. I have heard all kind of explanations for this, but the real reasons may be several. It is a company that also sells their movies in the USA, and this means cable sales for both France and US. That of course means safe-sex.
At one tikme they only distributed what they produced. Now they also distribute other people's product. There is a glut of their product, and all is safe-sex. I would be curious to know what the sales are compared to pre-condom years. I don't know to what extent condom use has hurt their business (Vivid in the USA, which claims their sales were not affected, has modified their 'thinking' some time ago on the use of condoms). I for one, has not touched VMD product for over 5 years now. It's not just condom use, it's the murky photography, the silly stories. They border on the Vivid, Wicked and Private look. Their stuff is no longer that different from any other high-scale producer/distributor. You always knew if you were watching a VMD movie from the mid-1980's to the mid 1990's. No more.

I know, Len.
But I don't have to like it, and will moan vociferously at every
opportunity ; -)
At least I'm consistently miserable : -))

No I don't like it, and condom use in VMD movies seem to be predicated solely on $, and nothing more. From the first company to produce-release hc movies on video in the early 1980's, and with original high-scale glossy product, they are now trying to copy Private, Vivid, Wicked, etc in a way that is almost embarassing to watch.
What angers me even more is the way the product is packaged. Nothing is suggested (unless you have bought/rented their recent product) in examing the video box cover that there is condom use. The DVD front cover shows you nothing at all, and the back cover (which is supposed to be more explicit, with thumbnail pics) is heavily censored. It's dishonest, and if it's something they strongly believe in (condom use), they certainly go a long way to suppress it in the way they market the movie.

Indeed; if they're not ashamed, why hide it?

That's exactly what I find most irritating about VMD product. Not the condom use. They are free to do what they want, and I am free to buy what I want. Bu the lengths they go through to hide the condoms. Thumbnails that don't either show the naughty parts very clearly, or they censor them completely. Are they selling a hard core product or a brochure to Disneyland?
