Hello,

I?m searching anything (films, filmed reports) on the topic Prostitution. Does anything like it exist?
Who can help? Who has seen something of the kind?
I would be glad about any hint.

Thank you very much in advance!

Almost all Hans Billian flicks touch that issue.

Lizzie Borden (not the one who worked for Extreme Associates) did a good movie called WORKING GIRLS (1986) (USA)

which got reviews at the time

Tony Garnett made PROSTITUTE (1980 (UK) and although it played wide, it was not altogether a critical success.

In mainstrean cinema, although prostitutes could be easily recognized as such, they could not be so clearly labeled with that moniker. Theyt were "dance hall" entertainers in westerns, cxafe hostesses, and such. One early example was Sadie Thompson character in RAIN. The French and the Italian cinema had a more open attitude (LA RONDE, DEDEE D'ANVERS, ADUA , etc). Hollywood was a lotmore prudish about overt depiction of prostitution or prostitutes. But NEVER ON SUNDSAY (1964) made in Greece by expatriate Jules Dassin broke the boundaries in showing a carefree hooker (Melina Mercouri). Hollywood tried it more timidly with IRMA LA DOUCE (1963) which was curiously set in sinful Paris.
Prostitution in hard core cinema is somewhat more "problematic" in a certain sense as the women are always portrayed in glamorous roles. But since all women in hc movies are always willing partners who give it away for free, it is hard to imagine many women portrayed in out and out prostitutes for pay. It really goes against the grain.
For instance there is a web site and DVD series made from those clips TEEN FOR CASH, in which comely teenage girls engage in sex acts with much older men for pay. Whgile no one describes as "prostitutes".
Even adult performers who occasionally or frequently escort object to being lasbelled as "prostitutes".
If you were to run a check of US hc movie titles for "prostitutes" or "prostitution" you would find very little. But in Euro hc cinema you will find a lot lot more, which shows the great differences in culture.

2004 semi-documentary Yo Puta by Mar?a Lid?n. Its drama sequences are quite lousy but the film contains contemporary views from various segments of the sex industry.

If portrayal of prostitution in the cinema is of particular interest to you check out these extracts from the well documented book "Marked Women: Prostitutes and Prostitution in the Cinema," by Russell Campbell.
