O/T human psychopathology

Many of you will have 'enjoyed' the recent irruptions of spammery into our usually
tranquil little Elysium. Thanks to the ever-vigilant mods for squelching these
in short order.

What bamboozles, flummoxes and confounds me greatly is the business-model behind
such 'thinking' [and I use the term quite inaccurately]. Does the dialogue run
something like this? "We run a chain of brothels and need to drum up business.
I know! Let's target anything web-based and vaguely 'adult', and shower it with
thousands of hugely annoying, repetitive, semi-literate messages. The chances
that this drivel will provoke someone to commit arson upon all our premises are
quite high, but on the other hand there's an infinitesimally small probability that
just one person will investigate our services further. And we'll pay one or more
deeply damaged individuals to do this for us. Alternatively, we could just burn a
thousand bucks'-worth of dollar-bills and cut out the middle-man, and instead set
up a business recycling paper cups into paper plates".
I imagine that our psychiatric institutions must be chock-full of poor souls
muttering tosh like this to themselves, who in an earlier age would probably have
strutted around, one hand tucked inside greatcoat, proclaiming themselves to be
Napoleon. I suppose I should be gratified that there seems to be no limit
whatever to the weirder manifestations of humanity's barkingly, woofingly, quite
gibberingly insane barminess......
