Can someone update the Video Suppliers - Abroad Links page with something on the legality of importing titles? I know it's illegal to sell in the UK, but is it legal for a customer to buy abroad and have something h/c imported?

As long as what you are trying to import is not considered offensive by HMCE (ie kiddie porn/beastiliaty etc)it will get thro OK.
I know because I have just suceesfully imported a Rick Savage DVD from Galaxy Entertainment in the US, and it came in an unopened box with a lable clearly statiing that it was a DVD !!

You win somw, you lose some. I've had 2 DVDs come through no problem from the staes and one tape, only the tape was paused in its journey and I had to pay customs duty on it, but it all boils down to the material in the film.

HM Customs also confiscate watersports vids - or vids featuring watersports (and they include women squirting in this)
I was going to say they didn't like them - the truth probably is that they like them too much to part with them!

I am just idly curious-do the authorities never go after the purchasers once they have IDed an imported vid/DVD as non-R18 &/or "forbidden"?? Here in the U.S. under federal law, the buyer is as liable as the sender for obscene materials crossing state lines, tho as a practical matter prosecutions for non-kiddie porn are rare. But back c. 1990 a local judge was arrested by the FBI, house & office searched,& he was indicted by a federal grand jury, for receiving non-HC B&D tapes from Bean Blossom. He ended up killing himself.

All the videos mentioned here could be confiscated and the recipients prosecuted under the Customs & Excise Management Act 1979. The vagueness of the Obscene Pubs Act does not help.
