O/T PAY

Firefighters ?21k
Police Officers 26K
Paramedics who train much longer and answer more shouts ?17k

Work it out!

I am fed up and I left the legal game due to low pay! I then retrained to save lives and unfortunately (paramedics & technicians) are valued less than police or firefighters!

I have nowt but admiration for the firefighters (my ex girlfriend was one and she certainly knew how to use a hose) but I hate the way this government is shitting on them. I despair at the idea of what Tony proposes. Can I go to bed now?

Exactly Buttsie.

It takes three years or more (and many weeks resedential training) for an ambulance technician to become registered as a paramedic and yet even then they get payed far less than a new recruit to the police let alone a fireman.

I hear of ambulance staff being stabbed and beaten on duty. They dont have the CS sprays and batons that the old bill have. Also they are often one man and one woman crews unlike the fire brigade who have burly tatooed blokes to back them up if the natives get restless. I reckon pay throughout the emergency services should be equal but perhaps the firemen deserve a bit extra pay because they are possibly the bravest of all three services.buttsie wrote:> > All Emergency Services employees should be paid the same> > I know council clerks that get paid for than Coppers and firies> quite unbelievable> > > > cheers> B...OZ

I agree with you that the firefighters and police and especially nurses and paramedics are paid poorly, but you forget those that I think are the worst paid of the lot - the military.

Starting pay in the army is around ?10,000 and even after around 10 years service and rank of corporal / sergeant pay can still only be around ?16-?17K - and for the job they do that is abslute crap.

And many people seem to forget they are now doing the jobs of firecrew (and doing it well) on really crap pay.

I served my time in REME and whilst I loved every minute of my military service I am glad I am not still in the army as I would probably be earning a pittance after 18 years of service.

There was also an interesting table in yesterdays Daily Mail which showed death rates per 100,000 in different professions, and firecrew were near the bottom. The most dangerous job is a fisherman, and I think there average pay was only ?15K.

I am grateful at times for suffering from sea-sickness so that rules me out of that one!!

Cheers
