Canon XM2 lovely camera. Just wish it had better capaility for connecting XLR professional microphones.

PD-150 would have been just as good, if not better than the XM2. It has the facility for plugging XLR mics straight in, but it had the dreaded buzzing noise when using manual record levels on the sound. Sony even admitted it is a fault in the design of the audio circuit of the PD150 and VX2000 and there is no cure. This renders those cameras virtually useless for anyone who is concerned with top quality sound.
Can't see who would want to buy a second hand PD150 for ?1500 when you can have a new Canon XM2 for the same price, but thats just my opinion.

Steven:
JM is selling cameras -period.

He did not ask for your opinion and why you chose to express it, I can only put down to the fact that you are intent on showing your new-found technical knowledge.

I have used all sorts of cameras over the years and am happy with a simple 3-chip Panasonic which delivers 500 lines. is great on full auto with same auto white balance etc, etc, ad nauseum.

We all have our preferences BUT the result is what counts...............
Think about it..................!

Maybe misplaced but this is the newbie opinion of someone who has worked in the video field for 7 years.
If anything I said was inaccurate I challenge you to prove me wrong.
I have been involved in servicing and repairing video equipment since 1994, as well as using it daily, as I work for a video production company.
Perhaps you didn't LIKE what I said, but it was not false.

Marcus I know about your Panasonic because I discussed it with you before.
I have always said that porn does not have to be of the highest production standards. If it makes people excited, it will do so whether its in High Definition, played back on a broadcast CRT monitor with a ?2000 DTS surround sound amplifier and speaker system, or recorded on a VHS tape and playedback on some old portable TV in someone's bedroom.

However, where non-porn productions are the topic, and you have a client to satsfy/promote, then standards have to be of the absolute highest. In such situations, auto white balance, auto record level, auto exposure etc are all things that the client is watching for and will slate you for at the slightest opportunity if it does not give the ultimate sound and video, thats my point.

Steven,
I bow to your superior knowledge of the technicalities (No, I am NOT being sarcastic)
However, my original point remains: namely that John is offering cameras for sale. Period.

PD150

The Sony PD150 has/HAD a well publicised (and i suppose, for Sony, an embarassing) fault re: sound. However, as i understand it - it only affected the earliest models. From what I understand, however, the PD150 was and still is a superb camera - but like everything - its horses for courses - some swear by sony, some swear by canon.. as second hand proces go - ?1500 sounds fair for a PD150.
