Some questions

Hi,
We need some advice, and I thought I?d start here
We?ve been successfully supplying specialist content to web-sites for the last few years and are now ready to move into DVD production. I need answers to some international distribution questions. We?re not particularly bothered about UK distribution, as our material is unlikely to get BBFC classification unless we heavily edit it (although that is not out of the question in the long-term).
I don?t expect to get all the answers here (I know bgafd better than that ), but pointers to where to start on getting the info would be very useful. We?ve already identified a number of different distributors who have indicated that they are interested in our content. We need to start formal negotiations with them soon, and my experience of any negotiation is that the more you know in advance about what the other side is looking for, the more likely you are to be able to give them what they want, without compromising your own needs.
Ours is a niche product (BDSM with explicit sexual content), each DVD will be 120 ? 140 minutes, 5/6 scenes, featuring 4 - 6 different girls.
The web-sites we supply will also be selling the DVDs and their retail prices will compare very favourably with prices for other BDSM content, which is usually only 60-90 minutes, featuring one or two girls, in a couple of scenes. In other words, retail customers will get "added value".
I accept that ongoing distribution deals will obviously be dependent on the success of initial sales.
So ?
*What sort of volume are distributors likely to take in the first instance?
*What is the range of price per unit we are likely to get offered?
*If ?sale or return? deals are offered (which I?ve been offered in the distant past for other material), what safe-guards can we put in place to guarantee that we?re getting accurate sales figures.
*Accepting that any niche market material is going to sell less volume, nevertheless what are the sort of sales figures over time that we might expect? (I seem to remember reading some time ago, that US sales figure of 5,000 units was regarded as extremely successful, but is that accurate?)
Like I said, I?m not expecting answers here (although if anyone has them, and wants to email me privately, I?d be grateful), but pointers to be able to do our own research would be helpful. As indeed would any other questions that we should be asking.
