Hi

Please can someone recommend a good stats program I can use on my site as the one I have now web-stat while excellent are getting silly with the prices!
They are basically asking me for 4 times the amount the site costs to host!

Any ideas ?

Neil, do you need an external stats program, or are you allowed to run your own on the server? If the latter, have a look at AWStats, it's free.

I have just downloaded awstats and it looks amazing but is abit beyond me. It is asking me to use a pl file and when i open it its just a text file ??

Oh well, thats the price I pay for not being a proper webmaster

I was taught about .pl files only yesterday so it's still fresh in my mind

.pl files are Perl Script, and quite easy to install, but you need to check with your host if they allow you to run cgi scripts, and also where you can run them. Some hosts restrict pl scripts to the cgi bin, others allow them to run anywhere. Also need to check if you are hosted on a linux or Windoze box, as perl on each platform is different and most perl is written for Linux.

I recomend masterstats, been using them for a couple of years. If you go for a perl script don't forget to set chmod
