Is it still profitable to produce porn films on 16 mm?

Bearing in mind you have to factor in processing and stock costs, (not cheap)not to mention telecine of all your film material onto video (horrendously expensive) before you can even start cutting anything together, I would say no, unfortunately. Shame really, as the film image beats video every time. Much better for subtleties of skin tone, donchaknow.

It's where to get them processed might be the problem-plus "lets run a few copies off for ourselves" syndrome.
A lot of the porn in Hollywood is still produced in 35mm mainly where the lab is tacked onto the studio-known as,all under one roof!.
Producing copies onto DVD or VHS are the best sellers...
Once I imported BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR on 16mm over 20-years ago,and had my 'collar felt'by those in power-no end of trouble.
Today, they would have said I was mad to import 16mm,why not DVD...how times have changed.

I seriously doubt it.
I used to use Super 16mm commercially, and it is still used for lots of TV ads, pop vids etc.
But why use it for porn? A decent digital video camera is much easier to use, gives immediate results and you can always tinker with the colour and filters in post-production to give a very close likeness of film.
Ok, I know he had good gear, but Lucas used digital video for Attack of the Clones....

Yes, I guess you're right.
I thought I could produce movies on 16 mm just to sell them in movie theaters, you know, those porn/smut movie theaters that were very mentioned back in the 70s.
Actually, I don't know if those theaters still exists but now I can see that the major profit you can get out of this is by distributing your stuff on DVD and VHS (or even stream it on the Internet).
Thank you very much.
It's been a pleasure chatting with you.

These theatres in cities are long gone-local councils, the bill, and other left/right wingers would see to that...
We are in an age when a 'tit & bum'is OK in a newspaper, but set something up in a town, and it's bread & water my matey!.
"Not in our town"thank you is the policy of the day...the '70's were the best time...I know I was there!

The Cinemas Act 1985 changed all that. No more grungy rip-off xxx adult cinema. Probably a good thing. At the very bottom of Winmill St in Soho stands 'Sugar Reef' before that it was a games arcade (a good one). Before that it was a tacky adult cinema which I visited in 1984. Rubbish but an interesting experience though.
