Recently subscribed to television-x, but didn't like it as the content was same as the freeview.
I phoned up to unsubscribe, but they said it was on a 12 month contract.
But I said surely I should have 'cooling off' period and am in my rights to cancel apart from connection fee if I am unsatisfied with a service.
How can I get to cancel the service, as quite frankly the content was pretty rubbish and not much shown.
I would much rather use the money that would be spent on a year for the service on 10 DVDs with British girls in, that has much better content showing alot more.
How can I do this?

If you used a credit card to subscribe there is little that you can do as they will simply keep debiting you for a year after you have given them a valid notice. Give them written notice of cancellation straight away as cancellation is only effective in writing - and send it recorded delivery.
If you used a debit card or standing bankers order cancel it and expect some aggro.

Ring up your credit card company and just block them from removing money. It is easy to block. Just say that you did not get what you paid for.

This transaction should be covered by the EU's distance selling regulations. These provide you with a 7 day cooling off period during which you are entitled to reject and return anything purchased over the phone or internet.

They have taken out a years payment and shut it off.
I have to write and claim the money back now.
Will I get it.
They seem to be using bullying methods on people, in that its way over the top easy to subscribe, and extremely difficult to unsubscribe or get your rights in your cooling off period.
Any further info on this?

Don't want to write, they will write back with letters, I don't want the miss to see. So can't do that.
With the daily mail???, tell me more don't understand much.
I did say about the cooling off period already, and they said no was arguing for ages i'm legally entitled to if im unsatisfied but they kept saying no.
Then I said can't you shut it off If I don't want it. They said theres no way they are able to do that.
But then said later that they are taking the years subscription, and they can shut it off, meaning they did have access to shut it off. and is bullying tactic again.
Told me I have to write to try and claim back money.
What should I do on this matter?

We are often told that TVX (and TAC) regularly monitor this forum. If that's true they're bound to read anything headed up with their name.
So, if they read this, perhaps they should bear in mind that unless a post to the forum tells us that you've received some better treatment from them they're likely to lose a lot more in prospective customers than they will gain from mistreating one disappointed customer.
They should also bear in mind that the fact that they insist on 12 months commitment and resist cancellations/refunds tells us a whole lot about the confidence they have that their product will be satisfactory (i.e. none at all).
