Hosting is essentially the location on the internet where your site is based.

Think of the internet like its England, and a NOC is a City and a Server is a town and your site is a house in a town.

Your server will have an address like 127.0.0.1, and your server will also have a DNS which is like a map.

You will point your web address to the server DNS server, who will then say like franky.com is located at 127.0.0.1/~franky so then rather than telling people to goto 127.0.0.1/~franky you can say goto franky.com.

Your web host will usually maintain your server to ensure its always online, always upto date, and generally in good working order.

Now the cost of doing ALL this yourself is high and requires a large amount of technical skill, so you basically pay someone to do all the messy stuff and, u just do the nice stuff.

You will however have to find a host that is OK with Adult Material as alot of hosts will simply delete you and keep your money for breeching there terms of service.

You will also need to be sure they have Good Tech support and thre required server technologies.

(not this isnt every bit of info just the basics)

I think you need to talk to the person developing your site to see what they require for your site to run. Most sites these days require the ability to run scripts or access data from a database. You need to know whether you need, for example, cgi, php, asp, mysql etc.

After that, there are literally hundreds of companies that will host your site. If you are not inundated with suggestions from this or other forums, you could do worse to ask other models that have decent looking sites, who does their hosting.

Although I do not run any sites myself, I cannot imagine that a web site is simply something you do, upload and forget. Even if you do not have ambitions for a pay site, with new content on a regular basis, most people appreciate up to date information. It don't look good if your web page says that you will be doing such and such when such and such has past...

Anyhow, good luck. You may wish to share your experiences with us iun due course.
