Hi Everyone,
I am off to Amsterdam for the New year. Could anyone recommend any decent DVD outlets.
I have been before but was very dissapointed in selection and price but i guess it was the main tourist area.
Any suggestions welcome, dont mind travelling out of the city.
Thanks
Paul

Happy Shop, Oude Brugsteege, off the Damrak across from the 'grasshopper' hash cafe. Good stock, helpful people. Can be relied on for good postal service via net.

Actually, Amsterdam can be a scarey place if you leave the Tourist path at night. Beware of 'friendly types' who offer you 'XXX rated live-shows' or cheap grass. Stick to the well-troden path of tourists and pay a few gilders more for peace of mind........unless a group of lads are with you that look a bit handy.

This question has come up a few times so try searching the forum, that's your best bet. If all else fails, do as in any other major city and use your common sense! I've lived over here a few years now and have never had any problems mainly due to following that particular piece of advice........

I've had 6 out of 10 packages opened by customs. All have arrived. The key is discreet packaging, what Happy shop do so well. i.e. dvd comes with blank cd label to cover any titles, no cover on boxes(sent seperately by letter if needed.
Seems as if customs are cool about stuff unless extreme i.e. animals, torture, scat.

Plenty of bars as well from memory, including one bar owner who gave me a shot glass full of beer when I asked for a small beer! I did get my full sized beer after I downed it in one. In case you're wondering where to go to avoid this bar it's opposite the windmill restaurant.
Three quaters of the people on the coach were Welsh so on our way back home from Dover one of them bought a top shelf mag in the services after spending the weekend in Belgium/Holland !!!

Don't know if you intend going out as far as dordrecht (it's about 45 minute journey from Amsterdam), but when me and a couple of mates stayed out there in 1997, we found that this town had a couple of great mainstream video rental shops, that also sold cheap adult vids as a sideline, one of them brought back about five videos for just over forty quid, and they where all excellent quality, this place was just off the main square in the town, off a little side street.
