is it really necessary to wait for the BBFC to approve it ? why not just buy it directly from the Distributor ?

If you purchase material by post from overseas distibutors that has not got a BBFC cert, are you commiting any offence (e.g. importing obscene material)?

Cream bun, unless you are importing box loads, you will have no problem buying one from an overseas distributor and having it sent to your home...the chances of you ending up at the Old Bailey on charges of Importing Obscene Material for buying one Porno DVD is remote, but such is the power of Authority now in the UK that one would naturally wonder at the possibility !

It's not obscene until it goes infront of a jury. The jury decides.
H+M might think it's 'obscene' and can stop it entering the UK. But that doesn't make it 'obscene'. You can't be done for possession (yet) unless it's 'child porn'.
