Hi All
Quick post to see if anyone can advise on online database development, similar to that used on model sites eg
www.purestorm.com
I'm after an off the shelf package that you can buy & customise. Or a specialist company/programmer in online databases.
Or if anybody knows the developer behind
www.purestorm.com I'd be ever soo grateful!
Hope you can help, best to email me direct on

There are a few off the shelf but NOTHING are complex as purestorm, net-model etc etc, they are custom code jobs.
Expect to pay around ?60-80 an hour for a professional php/asp coder who is skilled enough to pull off something like that.
Remember that its is querying a database so you need some pretty efficient SQL using there otherwise you will skill your database. So you have to pay the price.
You will also need a very optimised sturctured database as well, to keep it under control.
I was quoted by an indian contractor ?3000 and was quoted 8000 by a UK company.
Alot of people have customised personal's script into model sites, and other have done mash ups of a few different programs (like Be Seen Here) that have worked well too.
As you can see they are less than pretty.

May be worth you posting a project outline on
http://www.scriptlance.com
It's used by developers from all over the world, who bid against each other for the work. You're able to see each developers ratings for other Scriptlance projects they've undertaken, as well as their portfolio.
I've had some great work produced by Scriptlance developers.

There is also , I don't think I'd use something like that myself, mainly because I can produce a script that would work and do exactly what purestorm does, but it would tear your server a new asshole with the resources and stuff it would eat.
Be sure you check into the coders past projects and see if they have done something similar that has similar user/visitor levels to what you expect to have other wise your going to have problems down the line.

Just make sure you know what buying, because coding like anything else most people can do it, but very few can do it well.
Your perfect example is bluebird, all the money in the world but their webmasters fucked up royally, its sooooo very easy to do.
It would explain why net-model, one model place, purestorm at the only real ones to have a dedicated system in place, and almost everyone else uses altered scripts that was designed to A but now modded to do B.
So for me, take care in what you pay for and then make a good go at it and i'm happy
p.s. Save yourself a whole heap of hassle and tell them you want use mod_rewrite for addresses. This means you can put
mydomain.com/carole
in and the webserver see's it as
mydomain.com/models/profiles.ext?referer=&model=carole
or
mydomain.com/models/profiles.ext?referer=&model=3829424
and you want it done with object orientated templates where the code and style are separate like phpnuke / phpbb and stuff like that.
This will save you MEGA money when you come to upgrade, add alter and adjust things
