hello all.
im losing my marbles here. i used to be able to do this but have forgotten - well either that or its not as obvious how to do it on vista as it was on XP.
im trying to capture a frame grab from an wmv file.
im sure before if i play the footage on windows media player i could pause the footage and then right click and save that still image to my picture file.
as i say im using vista now but when i right click there is no option to save an image any more???
can anyone help me out purlease.
x

Hi Sandie,
the only way I know how to get a scene from a video file paused in windows media player is to press the print screen button on your keyboard, but this captures your whole screen, so you would have to use some sort of art package to just clip the part you need. If you could right click on a video and save a video file, then you have learnt me something.
Looking forward to our shoot at tne end of next month by the way.

Windows Movie maker used to let you do this easily - I don't know if its shipped with Vista though - I've stuck with XP
Also if you press ALT-PrintScreen at the same time, it just captures the one window, rather than the whole desktop. Not ideal, but it should be easy enough to crop in Paint.

Hi Sandie you must have a different version of moviemaker than i do, as i have two icons to the bottom right of the moviemaker screen the first one lets you split the scene abd the second one takes a pic and they are both left click !confused!

good idea to use the print screen guys. the vista version is called the snipping tool and is abit snazzier than ur usual print screen key.
still miffed as to why i cant file save but this will have the desired effect.
cheers.

My limited experience of Vista on a laptop has put me off. I've read reports that lots or people are reverting to xp. Just cos it looks cool doesn't mean it's that easy to use (well the book 'emotional design' though seems to go with that idea - looks better therefore works better).
I've recently found the latest version of hypersnap - can get media player caps better than most.

In my opinion vista is a cross between a mac os and typical windows os. Possibly developed to entice mac users away from there beloved apples.
Therefore for someone who has grown up with a windows set up, alot of things are in a differnt place or have a slightly different path to get there. Not great for promoting consitancy and we hate change dont we?
Ive had a few paddies when i cant find something i know is there but got there in the end - such as this post.
I can totally understand why people would choose to stay with XP.

sadly we will not have a choice.all new PCS/laptops come with vista and sme not all make it too hard to even romove Vista and install xp yourself, plus they will stop doing updates for xp and we will all be forced to get vista.
However by then I'm hopefully all the bugs will be fixed and most software will run on it, as those are the teething problems of all operating systems when they first come out.

Try Gomplayer.
It's free, it's simple to use, it will play almost anything and it has an image capture feature.
