Hi everybody
Well my site is down
It seems like in the last 16 hours someone has download 183.20GB off my site!
I have talked to Andy of AM69.net and his site is down too for the same reason
I think Servage has been hacked in to,
If anybody else is with Servage and you are having a day form hell with them please let me know so I can rule out it is just some one giving out there username and password
Thanks

Hello
If you dont already have it. I would suggest some software like pennywise.
You can limit the amount a user can download in a 24 hour period and it also stops password sharing.
It looks like you have a few users on the same password ripping your site. You should be able to see from you logs how much a user has downloaded and stop that account.

Hi james
Sorry to hear your sites down, I know its a silly question but you have got hotlink protection enabled and like asylum says pennywise should sort your problems out for you

Servage suck. I hosted my sites with them a couple of years ago and had a similar problem. For three days running my account was suspended due to my daily bandwidth allowance being exceeded. I suspected a password share and didn't have any protection at the time. I couldn't install Pennywize as I didn't have an account with root access so I could not modify the httpd.conf and they wouldn't do an Apache restart.
I thanked them for being totally unhelpful and took my business elsewhere.

There's a good reason why serious webmasters spend hundreds, even thousands, a month on hosting.

5010 GB Transfer at ?4.50 a month
doesn't seem so bad to me, what daily max is there?
don't they have different products?
Hostgator has a dedicated server for $174.00/mo with 1,500gb bandwidth

I have a dedicated server with
www.tvghosting.com now.
There prices are very competetive and I have always had excellent service.
Prior to that I hosted with
www.lunarpages.com whom I would also gladly reccommend.
It is indeed important to get a good host, and particularly one that doesn't close you down if you exceed your bandwidth.

Thanks for all the help and advice guys
I have now put in Omni secure in to try and solve the problem and it seems to be working for the moment
As for all the other hosts I will have a look at them but as I only have and not a great deal of members I only need a small bandwidth
Fingers crossed, it should be ok now, if not I will look at getting in a webmaster to run the site on my behalf
