Hi Guys and Gals,

Looking for a billing system to sign up to for downloading clips etc from our (almost ready for publication) website.
My understanding is that 'Paypal' is a no no, as they dont like the adult industry very much (assuming that is true and my source of that info wasnt wrong) what are the alternatives/other options ??- My main concern is that any paying vistors to the site have thier requirements met and of course that the sytem is the right one for us as well , certainly in terms of managment ease/cost - as always all suggestions/comments welcome.

I have heard that CCBill is a good one..............???

I've been with CCBill for years and never had a problem with them.

Some billing providers charge less commission, but CCBill is widely trusted by customers - which makes a big difference, with many people still nervous about using their cards on-line.

Hi - yes would endorse CCBill and have you thought about Epoch ?

Yes Paypal is a No No if you use them for anythink adult they will just close your account.

CCBill are great i have been with them now for over 8 years! Epoch are also good as a secondery Billing if you like to take Credit Cards and Debit Cards.

Thanks to everybody so far for the feedback - certainly CCBill seems to get the number one vote - I have looked at a number of websites in the industry and they do seem to more widely used than any other, I also had a look at thier own web site for signing up - there are a number of questions on there such as 'Company registration number etc' all appearing as mandatory fields - this leads me to believe that for me to set up a site with a saleable product (in this instance stills and clips/films) and use CCBill for my payment management - that I need to formally register as a company ...... would this be correct???.
Any pointers on how best to go about this would be appreciated - although my site will be mostly amateur content based , I am trying to be as professional as possible in its set up - so would prefer to get things right and any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

CCBill are trusted and trustworthy but some of their payment methods put me off years ago.
Perhaps they have altered these now but they are the reason I switched entirely to EPOCH... and have had no probs with them at all.
I will address my specific issues with CCBill (or at least one of them) in a moment but I'll say something about why people often speak against using EPOCH.
The largest bulk of people who favour CCBill over EPOCH are affiliates (again!) and this is because CCBill seem to make things easy for them (or at least easier than EPOCH do). I understand this from the MANY emails and forum posts from would-be affiliates who have warned, asked and begged me not to pick EPOCH over CCBill as it will make life more difficult for them and therefore puts them off - nobody ever bothers to ask if my choice is down to anything being easier or more convenient to me!..
...and here's where my complaint against CCBill comes in.
As I say, they may have changed this process now but when I used to be with them some years ago it took ages for me to get my money from them. Not because there was anything untoward going on but simply because they kept a very large percentage of my transactions back every month to cover refunds. And this percentage was 'held' for six months!
So basically I had to wait for nearly HALF of the revenue from week 1 until week 27 - nearly HALF of the revenue from week 2 until week 28 and so-on... and this goes on for the entire lifetime of any merchant account with them - or at least it did, as I say it may have changed or at least altered a bit now.

EPOCH are a dream to work with (even though their admin area is a mess - but I remember that CCBill was a nightmare too). With EPOCH there's 24 hour instant messaging with tech support and admin who are happy to talk you through stuff you probably should know without making you feel like a twat! They respond quickly to emails and resolve issues promptly too and most importantly of all - you get 100% of your money just 2 weeks after the last friday of every week.
What this means is that at the end of every week they add up your pennies and put it in an account and this sits there presumably so that if anyone asks for a refund they can do it... (because let's face it, nobody's gonna wait 6 months to demand their cash back are they?!!) Then after two weeks you get paid all the money your site earned in that seven day period. Basically you get paid every week, two weeks in arrears, which I think is a better and more practical way to do it.

Not sure how you had 50% of your income held back, but we have been with CCBill since 2002 and they are great, and even since day 1 the holdback was 5% for 6 months, and I am pretty sure Epoch is the same at 5% for 6 months.

I am a big fan of CCBill (we also use Epoch as secondary and have no complaints with them at all), but regretably, in todays economic climate, any new site would need to rely on some good affiliates to build the traffic to a site, and I would say the very large proportion of affiliates prefer working with CCBill.
