How Is Porn Fairing In The Recession

As a person who has made porn and has for some years now been pimping it as an Affiliate i will give you my views on how porn is coping with this recession, first lets go back some years to the recession of the late 70s early 80s i can remember pirated vhs pornos changing hands for ?25.00 this was mostly continental or U.S. stuff as there wasnt to much British hardcore about at that time, it was all of course illegal.
But in hard times people turn to porn as a release from the gloom but the difference now is that it is to freely availabe for nothing thanks to the internet, and where the net became a boost for porn it is now its worst enemy we in the industry are all to blame producers and affiliates, producers make their galleries and affiliates place links to them but in my opinion producers are now giving away their material for nothing.
Galleries should not show full penetration, show less and sell more leave people wanting, i recently recieved an email from a well established site not British but very well known who i am an affiliate to saying they were cutting all their links and revamping them as their sales have gone down to basically zilch, they are now showing a lot less in their galleries and they claim ther sales are increasing, time will tell and for larger sites it would mean a big rethink to revamp all of their galleries basically back to softcore but if people want to see the girl fucking they will pay recession or not !wink!

I think this is a really interesting topic. I am only just starting out trying to produce content but I am scared to commit a large ammount of money top it in case I just can't sell it due to the sheer ammount of free stuff out there

It will be interesting to see where this goes :

Am in a similar situation to bigmatty (just starting out) and have to agree that i am hoping that when our site finally goes live that the 'softcore' content as 'advertising' if you will, will be good enuff to pull in customers who want to see the 'hardcore' content. Excellant post Planeterotica - as already said, will be interesting to see what happens longterm.

I expect most U.K. producers will put on a brave face and say they are doing ok, maybe or maybe not but the British industry is small compaired to others and if they came together and said no more hardcore galleries then i feel sure they would profit in the long term.
Yes the British buyers of porn will turn to the continent and the U.S for their freefix but they wont be finding the girl next door there will they !wink!

Yes maybe of the old producers, but the new ones who are just building their galleries if they do it with editing you can just cut short of showing the biz, and then post a free add on here for girls to perform in your films who knows you could do well !wink!

Typical Island mentality.
Maybe it's the case that sales are dropping because the content is really really low end and the same old formula.
Can't blame everything on the recession or affiliates.

Too late G. Damage is done.
Try getting all the producers to cut back on free galleries and an army of non cooperatives will take their place thinking that filling the void will lead them to riches beyond their imaginations.
The simple fact of it is there is too much of the same stuff being produced en masse and there is a big reason for that.
Producers paying higher fees and rinsing the performers by getting several scenes in a day with the cynical view they are getting more bang for their buck. No you are not. The performers are getting tired and bored as the models fanny is chafed and smoking.
Customers know when they are getting the same old same and simply decide the product is boring.
Another reason is that there is a new generation of customers who are savvy with the internet and know they need not be paying for it and dont really care if its excluive content.
To quote a young lady friend who told me she uses youporn to watch girl on girl porn and has a wank inside 3 minutes then game over. She cant understand why anyone would pay a subscription to join a site.
Plus those tube sites like to steal peoples content....Dude I could write a book but Ill spare you the misery!happy!
All I can say is , if you shoot content that stands out you will get a loyal customer base over a period of time. people talk about quality but thats subjective. Just make it interesting. Whatever that means. I see a lot more niche sites popping up and then copycats flooding the market with that niche as well.
I always knew it would come down to this once it became legal and everyone saw it as open season to make porn. Content sharing, adult work, its not even producers giving it away. Amatuers are putting it up on tube sites now as well....Ok Ill stop now LOL
