The Twig is a play on The Stig. The Stig is a television personality from a BBC British television car series called 'Top Gear' featuring Jeremy Clarkson. He supposedly is unknown and wears a helmet all the time as he test drives cars on the show.
This is a joke reference the The Stig.

Fair enough.
I suppose a comical reference to a TV personality isn't what you perceive. I guess you are not looking at it from that point of view unlike all the other posters so far so as you say 'each to their own'.
