Minimum Industry Rates

OK I hope I dont open a whole can of worms with this post but I wanted to hear performers opinions on having a minimum industry rate.

I have not started this thread for people to complain about companies or to tell everybody their own rates so please don't put them!

I just wanted to hear if models think it would be a good idea to have minimum rates to be booked for as I often find I am being asked to do shoots for rates much lower than my own.
Also this would hopefully stop producers saying "the lowest rates get the job" and would stop some models from putting their rates down to rock bottom prices.

At the end of the day it makes all models have to drop their rates as no one will pay the higher rates.

What say thee?

Industry rates have been mentioned on UKAP.

I personally feel that I offer a decent rate, I do ask what the model charges and very rarely, if ever, have I forced any model to drop their price.

If you feel a producer is trying to force you to drop your fee, don't work with them.

Setting a minimum rate that is set in stone will put some girls out of work simply because it will put some producers out of work.

A couple of years ago a model quoted me ?500 per hour, I said no, she then said that is what she always gets. 6 months later she emailed back saying she would do a shoot for ?150 - I still said no, pisstaker or what!!

Some girls have told me that they have been offered as low as ?50 for a bg, thats taking the piss to the other extreme.

There's been many a post on this subject and as a producer and a performer I can see both sides.

Producer head on:

I pay what I have budgeted for and no one will tell me how to run my business. We pay 'normal' rates at JimSlip. Some producers can pay more, some are starting out and cannot afford to pay as much. That DOES have to be taken in to account by the performer.

Also, some shoots are much longer/harder work than others that I produce.

Performer head on:

I will negotiate with a producer if they are starting out and the shoot sounds enjoyable. (i.e they cannot pay the ?300 for a b/g scene).

As a performer I would NEVER work if I was unhappy about the rate. What's the point in turning up if you're already pissed off about what you're going to get paid? It will come across in your work.

At the end of the day if you want to work you have to be flexible.

i.e. one day a top porn star in Budapest will work for a top American producer and get paid much more than the next day, when they are working for a small web based company. The point is that they are continually working.

Don't forget if you're booked through an agency that the producer has to pay 20% on top of what they've paid you to the agency. So for example a ?300 scene will end up ?360 in total plus your travel.

It's an industry that has to be flexible with the times. Sorry if that's as clear as mud!

Unless producers' clients are going to start paying more, models are just going to have to take their share of the plummeting fees available these days.

And you'd need to stop all the 'share' deals going on these days, before you could even think about a minimum rate. Thats a major cause of falling fees.

Afraid it would just never work.

Supply & demand people. I get quoted ?350 to ?700 in the UK so I take my work East. Lets just say I rarely work with UK models & would never book the originator of this posy purley down to her rates.

In the US I can book a Hispanic girl for $50 for Anything

Minimum Rates could not be enforced at any level above the minimum wage.

:D Glad you posted this as this is what gives me the most hassle still.

I can guarantee 2 cum shots for ?100-?150 plus travel but I do accept less if I'm offered something else in return like content or a chance to work on something new for example. That's what some people in the industry don't understand is I'm here to learn as much as earn but you can take the spunk but not the piss out of me. I'll contibute to content exchange costs maybe but depends what it is.

I definately don't negotiate on travel costs, there are some producers/toggies that seem to think that they're the only people in the UK that are strapped for cash. If someone can't afford at least the cost of a coach from Bristol then they should book someone closer. I'm being sued by my ex for over ?150,000 plus legal costs, as can;t be settled in small claims, so ?40 or ?50 coach fair is a hell of a lot of money to a guy on jobseekers, that's strapped for cash.

I've been sworn at, sent countless abuse & even lost jobs just because I am a paid performer & I am booked for paid jobs. One message I received "Who the fuck do you think you are you fucking piece of shit wanker new guy" that is from a well known name who offered me ?10 only in travel exspenses from Bristol to London, then they have the nerve to make out on here that they're all about helping new people lol.

You've personal experience of working with me Satine & know I can produce the goods & that I never agree to do something & not do it. I've done a lot since working with you & Maise & every single time I've been paid my full rates plus travel or where money has been tight they have paid my travel & given me something else in return of fee.

Forgive me for saying so but I know there's a lot of pettiness in porn & the only people that have ever said a bad thing about me in porn are the very same ones that seem to think they can demand I work for them for nothing.

I'm told not to mention who I work for but I've never had any problems with being paid by anyone I've been booked by. I've done 2 scenes with a cut on my cock.

I made a post ages ago and got abuse for suggesting that a newbie coming into the industry couldn't justify asking for 400 for b/g or anal, I forget exactly, because despite the pull they have, they also have the higher risk of giving a poor scene, but it's not a case of producers not wanting to pay top dollar, it's a case of getting the same thing for 250, that someone else is asking 350 for. Unless the model in question is a superstar like Lolly, Cate Harrington or HollyD why not cut costs?
