Mind how you go in that town, Jo. There's a 17th century saying, the beggar's lament, that goes: 'From Hell, Hull and Halifax, may the good lord deliver us.' Its thought to refer to the very harsh application of the law in the town and the liberal use of the early guillotine they had. Still you can always get a good pint at the Big 6.

Its a smallish back street boozer with good beer and friendly atmosphere. The type there are sadly too few of these days. If you are looking for a noisy, action packed night out, give it a miss, but if you want a cosy old traditional pub for conversation, good local beer and a roaring fire, search it out. Takes some finding. You can be in the street and still not notice it.
