Although this is preferable in the UK, it's mostly a strict requirement within the USA (and for companies with web servers based in the USA), so no ID documents of UK models are likely to be government issued (i.e. USA government issued) in any case.

But do the best you can. All the excellent models listed below have ID's suitable for all UK and USA producers.

Get two of these three. Passport/photo driving licence/birth certificate.

Don't mess with any proof of age cards, student ID, etc. More trouble than its worth.

NO ID, NO SHOOT.

Legally in the UK, you don't need anything at all.

But what if the model complains that you said "not for release"? or turns out not to have been 18 after all? Messy.

The paperwork simply ensure that everyone is clear about what they are doing.

So what counts - that's down to each buyers lawyers. If I can get a Passport and Driving Licence I know it's fine. Anything else and I always get them to agree that they will accept. Given a Passport OR DL, most of the time a Birth Cert or other "officially issued only with good evidence" doc is OK. But if neither Passport OR DL, a lot companies just won't touch it.

If you are repping a new girl - tell her to get a Passport and a provisional DL.

US of course has 2257 regs. Google it.

We use a Passport & photo driving license & get the model to sign a model release & a 2257 release, this mainly for the US as its not so much compulsory but advisable in the UK.

I would not bother with Birth Cert. It's just a piece of paper that says a birth took place. How anybody knows that the girl whose holding that piece of paper is the one the birth relates to I don't know. It could belong to her older sister! I would go on one, but would have to be photo id such as Passport or Driving Licence (even Provisional).

But you only be using the birth certificate as secondary ID, to back up the other 'government issue' photo ID.

But it's whatever those paying the bill want, in the end.

and how many people really resemble those almost "holographic" tiny photos on a Driving Licence?

Answer: no fucker....

It's all just lip service.

If you are self publishing - providing YOU are sure the girl is over 18 - no worries...

if you are selling the content on - then pay the lip service.
