I think they've gone about it totally wrong.

In the eyes of non racing industry people they see the whip as cruel, painful and brutal. Even horse riders say they think racing should be stopped!

A horse's skin is seven times thicker than a humans so you really have to hit a horse with a serious amount of force to hurt it!

I've had horses most of my life, and spent years riding racehorses, the BHA need to look at the use of the whip from a Jockey's perspective, it's not designed to hurt but to encourage a horse to push that bit further.

Any horse will yeild to pressure, it's common sense but the BHA don't seem to have any on this subject. If they want to 'win' the public back they'd ban whips altogether but the Derby/National/Gunieas aren't won with hands and heels

I'm glad that's your view. Having been brought up on a farm myself, I think the general public has developed a rather anthropomorphic view of animal cruelty.

Im a layman in terms of animals but I do think that we should be watching any violence and ensuring that it doesnt get out.

After all I dont want the market for good BDSM to die away if it becoimes too easy outside of porn. lol.

With regards to using the whip in horse racing, I can not understand why the Jockey Club or the people that run racing, do not sanction a few race meetings where the whip is not used.
These would not have to be at the large meetings but could be tried out on some of the small fibresand courses.
At least it would give the some idea of how it would go.

I am surprised that Katie K has had no applicants for a spanking from the jockey club.
Maybe if that was extended to the F1 motor racing committee you could have had a applicant.
