Plot Summary -

Summer on the small and beautiful Greek Island of Ithaka (the homeland of Ulysses). Elektra is a young woman who is more or less engaged to Vassilis, an idealistic young man who works at the office of the telephone company. She has a brother, Aris, who works as a fisherman and has an affair with the blonde sexy Katy. Aris's closest friend is Stefanos, with whom Elektra is secretly in love. At the opening of the film, we witness a heated masturbation scene by young Elektra on her bed, which is intercut with some nice shots of her masturbating at night, standing on a rock in front of the sea. (First sex scene.)

The quiet rhythms of life on this island, where people work, have fun and have sex, are disturbed by the arrival of Maria, the lovely but depraved black-haired daughter of a wealthy shipbuilder. While drinking coffee, Stefanos and Aris watch old-acquaintance Maria come towards them. Maria is looking for some good company and asks Stefanos to meet her in two hours for a swim at the magnificent beach with the caves. Elektra wants more than a mere platonic relationship from Vassilis, but he remains too shy and asks her to wait until they get married. She reminds him, that like Ulysses's wife Penelope, she may soon be surrounded by many lovers.

Meanwhile, on a hill, Katy has a date with Aris. She expresses some jealousy towards Maria, and starts teasing him by stripping. Aris reassures her that for now he will remain faithful to her. They soon reach a small beach, where they get into some nice preliminaries (mutual licking) and have passionate sex. (Second sex scene: in missionary and doggie positions; some of the close-ups might be fake.) He cums on her pussy and takes a swim. (This scene is included only in the hardcore versions of the film).

At the same time, Maria and Stefanos lie naked at the beach with the caves and rocky surroundings. The sexual heat is intense. They start with some French kissing and nice foreplay, only finally to move on to passionate sex all over the place (in both sandy and small-pebbled beaches). The scene is intercut with some love-making in the sea and Maria's brief (and beautiful) masturbation with a big oar. (Third sex scene: first in cowgirl and missionary at a small-pebbled beach; then in doggie, doggie anal, standing missionary and missionary anal positions on the sandy beach; he cums on her ass and briefly starts fucking her again.) Extremely excited, Elektra runs to Katy and mentions what she just experienced at the beach. They start a discussion about sex, love and marriage. Katy insists that Elektra shouldn't be deprived of the joys of sex and initiates her into (vigorous) lesbian sex. (Fourth sex scene, also available only in the film's hardcore versions.) This scene is intercut with one of Maria and Stefanos, at the beach at nightfall, conversing after sex. Stefanos expresses his anxiety about his future on the island (all the youth is gone, few interesting jobs are available), and hopes that he may be able to avoid emigrating. It's only then that Maria brings up the idea of stealing a priceless Christian icon from the island's monastery. While having a coffee and playing games, Stefanos tells Aris about the plan, persuading him to participate. At the same time, Vassilis overhears Maria talking on the phone about the deal. Elektra and Maria spend some time at some local festivities, while Aris and Stefanos check the monastery's surroundings in order to prepare their night 'coup'.

That very evening, Stefanos secretly enters Maria's villa, lusting for her. She tells him that they should both be very cautious and not spend any more time together until after leaving the island. Elektra serves Aris dinner. He blames her for spending time with Katy (who is only good for sex, but unfit to get married to him!) and assures her that things will shortly improve for them, refusing however to reveal any more details to her. Back at Maria's place, she and Stefanos lie on the bed and, after some serious foreplay, soon proceed to lovemaking. (Fifth sex scene, included only in the hardcore versions of the film: in missionary, standing missionary and cowgirl positions; he cums poorly inside her pussy.) After sex, Stefanos asks Maria about her motives for stealing the icon, as she is so wealthy. She cynically responds that she doesn't want to beg for daddy's money, aiming to be rich in her own right and live her own life. He promises to deliver the icon by dawn.

Some time later, all the protagonists meet at the town's square, listening to music and watching Stefanos's manly 'zeibekikos' dance. The night finds Elektra playing naked on her bed with a teddy bear, Maria wandering at the villa, anxious about the outcome and phoning her accomplice (once again overheard by Vassilis), and finally Aris and Stefanos executing their task and succeeding in stealing the icon. (All these scenes are presented in a quite lengthy way in the softcore versions of the film).

Back to Elektra, she lies on bed and masturbates fantasizing about Stefanos dancing and sharing some intense looks with her. Katy watches the scene and guides Stefanos in Elektra's room. On purple sheets, Katy first undresses Elektra and then pours some rose-petals all over her still virgin though extremely aroused body. Suddenly, Stefanos joins her naked and a beautiful scene of a 'loss-of-virginity ceremony' (the one that probably justifies the film's original title) begins. (Sixth sex scene available only in the film's hardcore versions: in aggressive missionary position; he cums inside her.) Katy, who has been present at the whole scene, comforts exhausted Elektra afterwards with many caresses.

Maria, for her part, takes the stolen icon to a yacht in the port and soon after takes a night swim. The following day, Vassilis passes by the local bar, and gives a curious look to both Aris and Stefanos who are playing pool, arousing some suspicions in them. He then visits Maria and tries to blackmail her: he has overheard her conversations and is aware of the whole deal but won't reveal a thing to the police, if she returns the stolen icon and persuades her father to build a large hotel complex on the island. Maria lures him into some sort of dungeon, where Aris and Stefanos, lying in ambush, beat him severely. Meanwhile, the police officer receives an envelope with a photo showing Aris and Stefanos getting away with the icon. Although he doesn't want to believe it, he later summons both guys down town, but they flee in different directions. Aris intends to hide on the mountains, whereas Stefanos chooses an isolated beach. Back at Maria's dungeon, Vassilis is hung up half naked. Maria teases him sexually in a creative, but still sick manner. She tells him that from her 14th year, she has locked herself in the bathrooms when her parents held parties, with the sole purpose of getting fucked by all the men that went to the loo. She accuses him of being gay, his moral defences start to weaken but in the end she leaves him alone.

Elektra and Katy decide to help the fugitives. They both discover Aris, who urges Elektra to give some food to Stefanos. Back in the ruins of a local jail, Aris is eager to give Katy all the information she wants, but they'll have to fuck first. A very hot sex scene follows. (Seventh sex scene: blowjob, in cowgirl position; most of the close-ups including the cumshot are fake.) Elektra discovers Stefanos, reports the latest news and tries to make some erotic moves towards him. Stefanos kisses her, and tells her to come again tomorrow. Maria pays a visit to the local police station, expresses her sorrow about the theft of the icon and promises to convince her father to donate two icons from his personal collection to the monastery. Shortly after, she returns to the dungeon and has some dinner in front of Vassilis, blaming him for messing up her whole plan. She reveals that not only did she use the two guys, but she was also the one to have sent their incriminating photos to the police and wonders what she should do with him. She gets excited when she discovers that he might still be a virgin, unzips his trousers and caresses him. It's a very erotic scene, although not a hardcore one, which can be seen in detail in the softcore version of the film.

Next day, Elektra visits Stefanos at the shingle beach, brings him food, teases him again sexually and finally shares some passionate sex with him. (Eighth sex scene: passionate kissing, some fingerfucking of Stamou, sex in missionary, standing missionary positions, including anal; good part of the action including anal originates, though, most probably from former scenes; he cums on her ass.) After sex, they both discover they have feelings for each other. Stefanos confesses that he hesitated to make a move on her because she was his best friend's sister and he tells Elektra everything about Vassilis's involvement and disappearance.

Meanwhile, the policemen, trying to play the local heroes, finally manage to solve the mystery, but still can't figure out who is the 'brain' behind it. After their sex scene Katy and Aris discuss their common future. He tells her the whole truth and she suggests that he should surrender and hopes that a shared future lies in front of them, since they are both very young. They argue, then kiss and make up. Soon another sex scene (on a blue towel!) begins. This is strangely omitted in the hardcore version of the film, but present (somewhat cut) in its softcore one. (Ninth sex scene: passionate kissing, some nipple sucking of Romanou, sex in missionary). Their sexual encounter is however disturbed by the searches of the policemen, who are now hot on their heels. Katy tries to misguide them by heading in another direction and ripping off her clothes, but Aris eventually gets arrested.

Maria tries to find some way to get rid of Vassilis and plans on giving him rat poison. Having no luck, she starts tearing off her clothes in order to claim that he tried to rape her and that she killed him with an anchor in self defence. She fails again, as the police, guided by Elektra, manage to stop her (a modern sorceress Circe). At the station, the policemen announce that the icon has been found and try their best to go easy on the local guys. Elektra persuades them to give her the police craft in order to bring Stefanos back from his shelter. She only partly succeeds, since the craft runs out of gas inside Ithaka's harbour, to the frustration of the policemen. The film ends with the couple kissing inside the boat.

Regarding the considerable scene differentiation of the, at least four, known versions of the same movie, the following should be noted:

Erotiki teleti, a soft Greek version, in the Greek language, presents the whole story in a very logical way, including several typical 'Greek' scenes. It is about 79 minutes long. In comparison to other versions -

  • Elektra's opening masturbation scene is soft but quite long;
  • all local scenes are presented in detail (friends play Greek games, drink small cups of Greek coffee, Elektra and Maria pass by at local festivities, Stefanos's zeibekiko dance scene)
  • the sex scenes between men and women are shorter and softer than in the German version;
  • the 'ceremonial' sex scene that starts when Elektra gets jealous and goes to masturbate in her room (with her fluffy teddy bear), only to be later introduced by Katy to Stefanos, is presented in detail;
  • the final scene with all the cast gathered together at the police station is presented in a complete way.

Insel der Begierde, the German softcore release has a somewhat shorter duration (c. 4 mins) which is due to-

  • the shorter duration of Elektra's (somewhat softer) opening masturbation scene, as well as of her lesbian scene with Katy
  • the absence of all local (typically Greek) scenes (no festivities, no coffee or games, no zeibekiko dance), including a somewhat shorter description of the actions of the police

The Ceremony, a full hardcore version, in English, made for European export (c. 95 minutes), and Itan kapote parthenes (same as Sex kai Archeokapilia), a full hardcore version, in Greek, released in the 1980s (c. 94 minutes) -

  • Elektra's opening masturbation scene and her lesbian scene with Katy are hard, long and hot;
  • all the sex scenes (outside, mostly near or even in the sea; once amidst the ruins of a village) are hard
  • the story is on the whole quite complete, though lacking many details especially in the description of local scenes

Some Remarks -

During the 1970s & early 1980s, the so-called 'golden' era of Greek Porn, more than a hundred erotic soft-core films were produced. This 'boom' happened in parallel with the decline of the traditional local (but strong) cinema industry, leading many famous mainstream actors and directors (the more bold and sexy ones, many young talents as well as other traditional actors and directors lacking work) to participate in such erotic movies, which attained some considerate commercial success at the time and were widely projected all over the country. Gradually, and following the strong development of European porn, Greek audiences started persistently hearing rumours of hardcore performances by several of these well-known actors, and also about many hardcore scenes shot in parallel, destined for the foreign markets and sometimes projected as 'inserts' in specialized porn cinemas in Greece. The main source of such rumours, besides some 'connoisseurs', were essentially Greek sailors or students working or travelling overseas. The delayed sexual liberation in Greece (at least as far as hardcore sex was concerned), that took place around 1982-1983, combined with the sudden explosion of video production and distribution in the whole country, finally proved that in several cases, the filmmakers of the 1970s (essentially relatively young specialists and technicians, that had all learned their art well, by participating in the making of all the important traditional mainstream films of the time) did actually shoot several hardcore scenes for foreign export. However, the producers have always remained extremely silent about it, evidently trying to protect their 'professional' reputation or those of some of the well-known Greek actors. Needless to say, most of them are still working today, essentially on TV.

Around 1983, a film called Itan kapote parthenes was released on VHS in Greece. It was soon made clear that it constituted the hard core version of O. Efstratiadis's Erotiki teleti. (Some time later, the same was to be noted about his film Gimno fotomodelo.) As was the case with all Efstratiadis's productions, what we have here is by far the best example of the typical style of Greek sex and pornmakers in the seventies: generally very nice photography, beautiful settings, consistent plot, good-looking women and finally, some fine genuine hardcore sex, that had little to envy from other european productions. Maria Konsta, a still-beautiful juicy brunette makes a smashing debut (she later turned to some second-rate mainstream acting and singing), whereas Christos Nomikos, today a quite successful TV and theatre actor, confirmed his reputation among his profession for being, both onscreen and off screen, 'the major greek stud' of his generation. Actually, all of his sex scenes with both Konsta and Stamou generate authentic sexual heat, although a closer look suggests that some of it may have been shot in a studio. (His first sex scene at the beach, showing him fucking Konsta, while at the same time Stamou is masturbating herself, has to be considered, in my opinion, as one of the most erotic and beautifully shot hardcore scenes of European porn in the 70s!) This is not quite the case in the scenes between Romanou and Gindis, where some fake hard core inserts have probably been added. One should also remark that the original hardcore scenes (of a total duration of approx. 70 mins) cover the whole plot of the film, leaving an overall nice impression, and enhancing regrets about the lack of a 'complete' version of this film, that would have, by some calculations, a duration of 150 minutes!
