Okay I could be wrong but in my experience of stuff I've done for TVX the only company to actually do a hard edit is Big Willy Productions, these shows may be for sale on www.omarsclub.com (or .co.uk???). Other people I've worked for like Peter Marriot (Extreme Close Up), George Miller and Anna Span sell all of the rights to TVX and therefore only do a soft edit (even though we do it hard).

Do you know if that is rights for eternity or a specific period?

Presumably the producers keep a master copy of the shoot from which a hard version could be edited with the necessary release forms.
