Downloading?

Post by zigsuk »

Despite eventually receiving my MFX videos I don't think I shall order through the post again. Is downloading the way to go? I have ordered a broadband modem.
Is it any good? Does it still take ages to download? Is it reliable i.e does it download properly? Do you lose connection, etc? Also is the picture quality any good?

The d/l speed depends on the server, and the speed of yours and the download connection, i.e. even if you d/l at 512 kb/s, if the sender is uploading at 56k, it'll take ages.
If both ends are BB, an hours' worth of vid might take about the same to d/l if you don't run anything else in the meantime: but you also have to factor in the file-size: a small size is generally poorer-quality. Overall quality depends on the original, of course.
Sites like KaZaa and Easynews (search here for more info) have shitloads of mpeg files to please all tastes: scat, extreme S/M, animal, whatever. But heed well the warnings about spyware/spam/diallers............

"I have ordered a broadband modem". I assume you mean that you also have a broadband connection.

........a pretty safe assumption, I'd have thought.
But then, what do I know? I haven't got the hang of 'batteries not included' yet.

Hmmmm!!!! Just seemed a slightly strange way to talk about broadband.
And there are some dodgy salespeople around.

Modem/connections are usually offered as packages, though.
But it took six weeks to get my Buzz Lightyear going............

The major problem with this is, very few people want to watch d/l files from the relative discomfort of their PC desk- and for repeated viewing, a more permanent format is preferable, not to mention storage problems if you have a lot of files, even with 100 gig+. If they are easily transferable to disc (and not all file types are, and you must have a burner, e.g. Nero), fine. But why should the poor beleaguered punter do all the work? it's time-consuming and can be technically involved, so why not just offer upfront the alternative of DVD?
I know doing it your way avoids the need for distributors to be involved, but this is probably offset by greatly reduced sales, so the advantage to the producers is moot, as far as I can see. And it gets the punters' (well, at least mine) backs up.

A useful site to test your broadband for speed & security and then some is

cable modem/DSL Tuning Guide

A couple of sites that can be useful in determinig if there is a speed problem

If you do a search under broadband at there are some interesting articles which are a must read

Sites like adultbouncer & select deluxe(see for reviews) would seem to give you more value for your money than buying a dvd or video
