BBFC Survey including R18

The BBFC are conducting a survey asking people if they agree with the way sex and violence are currently classified at all levels including R18. The last time they did this they were forced to relax the censorship of 18 classification film a little as most people were in favour of more choice for adults.

The survey opens up in a popup window the first time you visit www.bbfc.org.uk (and only the first time unless you clear your cookies). It is a simple multiple-choice form that doesn?t take long to fill in and can be completed online or even better, printed and posted (printed responses may carry more weight).

If you can spare a few minutes it is well worth completing it. I can guarantee that the likes of Mediawatch will be asking all their moaners to fill it in, so we desperately need a few open minded people to help balance things out and prevent the corrosive influence of the rightwing fundamentalist Christian groups who are opposed to just about everything and anything with an 18 certificate (or even a 15 certificate in many cases).

I had my say. I just can't help wondering how I would of found out about this survey if not for using this forum.

fwiw, here's what i put in the 'comments' box at the end:

bbfc stands for 'the british board of film classification' not, as it used to, 'the british board of film censorship'.

that's fine with me, as i would like the bbfc to limit it's activities purely to classifying material - not censoring it out of some spurious, not to say outdated, notion of 'protecting the public' from itself.

if a film/video is effectively a record of a criminal act - e.g. child abuse, non-consensual sex, non-consensual violence, etc - the bbfc is bound by law from granting a certificate. however, if adults wish to watch material in which consenting adults performing non-consensual acts, that should be their right (obviously, this doesn't apply to child abuse as children, by definition, cannot be consenting).

i would like the bbfc to declare it's intention to do away with ALL acts of censorship, leaving what can and cannot be witnessed by the viewing public up to the legislature.

if politicians think we shouldn't be allowed to see something, let them try and pass a law against it. that way we can have the sort of 'national conversation' about such matters that a democratically enfranchised population has the right to expect.

I will try to post links here to major relevant surveys. If woodnome is willing for me to (I think he is) as they don't appear that often and they may have animportant impact on how much we see of British Girls. The next one may well be Ofcoms standards survey in the first half of next year. Watch this space
