using my name in vain

hi ya all.

i did a name search yesterday under google and found that in the last 2 weeks some bugger has used my name to direct traffic to his poxy american sites that im not even on or nothing to do with.

go on have a look at sandie caine on google. u will see what i mean.

I wouldnt mind if it was once but he has hit it a dozen or so times and obviously its pushing genuine links to me - like to BGAFD and my official sites down the list.

can they get away with this especially since im not even on the sites?

Unless you have your name registered as a trademark then they can do anything they like AFAIK and even then, because of the global nature of the internet, it would probably still be practically unenforceable!

It's happening to all of us Sandie.

This guy is spamming every search term on Google at the moment and making the results completely useless.
All you can do is e-mail Google's abuse department and tell them the problem, they may take the pages down but I'm afraid they'll be back on the next update.
It's a shame because he's ruining what has been the best search engine for a long time by finding a way around their algorithms.

The main spammer who has screwed up the whole of Google for almost a year ,is based in Switzerland and most of his domains are .ws or .info.

I worked with a Google Guru who told me exactly how to complain and 6 months later... The spammer is still everywhere.. Google do nothing..

I have webmasters who have become affiliates for one of my pay sites then buy domains with a slight variation and then use these to get their sites good ratings at Google due to the similarity and their site is nothing to do with me or my niche .. I get webmasters who steal my meta tags.. I get webmasters who steal the names I make up for models...

I can do nothing about the similar domains but I contact the webmasters and hosts for tag and name theft and they do get changed. Whether trademarked, registered or not. If your wording, names etc. have been around long enough to be recognised as yours then there is a case.. Take my word for it as the thieves who did that to me soon vanished. I even got a couple of them to change their pages to sell my sites as they became affiliates for fear of legal action.

The only good point is, the thieves some how have helped my original domains to the #1 spot for most searches

Hi Woodgnome, Yahoo gets all its search results from Google at present so they wil be almost identical. Although this is expected to change very soon as Yahoo are probably going to drop Google in the near future.

Yeh Search extreme is cool website, they list many of the worlds adult film stars, Some times the pages may need updating, I'll e-mail the webmaster and get Sandie's web link corrected. I'm sure the webmaster will correct it as ASAP.

It is sad that Sandie's name is being highjacked by crappy bogus web sites and making good links like the BGAFD, Searchexteme, IMDB, etc..etc.. go down the list.
