Whoa! Dude! Steady on with the old 'poor picture quality' attitude. Like, you must have copped for a duff copy.
If I recall rightly most of the material that made that particular 180 min compilation up was from Nick Pace (Ben Lover) and Melissa's later output. Shot on Hi8, the master tapes are substantially better quality than their earlier work (which for the most part are fine.) Those clips were edited directly onto a DV master. So, if the picture quality was a bit naff I can only put that down to either a faulty duping deck or a duff blank tape.
Anyhow, I'll transfer the tidied up footage onto DVD when I get a minute - though when that will be is anyone's guess. However, if I was to suddenly get in an order for a thousand units you could rest assured that I would be beavering away on it quicker that one could say "Oi! Look at my wad!"
I inherited virtually all of Nick and Melissa's material. He came to me one summer?s day in 98 and confided that he had an awful premonition that he was about to be busted. Therefore, he was going to make himself scarce, so did I want his back catalogue of materiel featuring well know mid 90's glamour girls in either solo, lesbian of B/G action? Well, is the Pope Catholic? Of course I did. The deal done, we spent the rest of the sunny summer afternoon quaffing Stella lager on the patio of posh rural hotel exchanging groovy shag stories. Cushty.
The very next day Nick and Melissa were busted, big time. Their Merc was boxed in by four cars carrying armed Old Bill (Nick's reputation for 'packing heat' had preceded him) and they were forced onto the hard shoulder of the A12 and arrested. Their story ended up as a big splash in the News Of The World.
But, out on bail and undeterred, they picked themselves up and carried on shooting (movies, I mean) and, as I mentioned earlier, their later output was visibly better in the picture quality department. I guess they'd bought a new camera after the Old Bill seized their original one and I believe they teamed up with various other parties - Harry H Morgan for one - who were much more experienced in lighting a shoot. But the pressure of the ongoing case took its toll. Nick 'n' Melissa fell out and went their separate ways. Their film output stopped there, and this time it was one of my business partners who was on hand to pick the later pieces up.
Last time I saw Nick was in a pub in a small village near Ipswich. I was in a moody meet with some other porno people and Nick turned up out of the blue. So, we all had a very agreeable pub lunch. It wasn?t until 18 months later that I heard on the grapevine that he had been beaten to death in Bangkok. The news would have been surprising and shocking had it been anyone else, but Nick had a habit of crossing people, he couldn't help it. Now, whether problems he created here followed him to the Far East, or whether he created new problems for himself out there, I do not know. But some of our common associates who I later mentioned the sad tale to seemed even less surprised than me. Makes you wonder...

Eventually, we hope to offer all of Nick & Melissa's back catalogue (over a hundred classic sessions from the golden age of Brit-Sex) on DVD, probably via VideoAngels, and we're taking the first step next week. Great stuff from two fascinating characters who were key players in the 90's adult video boom.

I know it didn't come across on his videos, but in reality, Nick was a very genial charismatic man. You couldn't help but like him. He was great company in the pub, the life and soul. But he had the devil in him, honour and loyalty were boring. Nick got his kicks by playing 'an angle' even if that angle was contrary to the best interests of his closest friends and associates.
Nick never crossed me personally (though the ripples of his actions did spread out and cause me a little grief) and as I said, he was a very likable chap. I couldn't bring myself to despise him, though others who did have cause to be aggrieved may not have been so magnanimous.
The truth is, I don't precisely know why he died. I was just outlining the situation with Nick and the circumstances of his death. I must let people draw their own conclusions.
