You might just as well ask how much does a footballer earn - there's a world of difference between your David Beckham and your Shrewsbury Town right back.

It depends how many films the pornster does, what they do in those films, how big and prestigious the companies they work for is, and what non-film work they do. Most of the biggest American porn stars, for example, earn the vast majority of their salary as strippers/table dancers, just doing a handful of scenes a year to keep their name in the public eye (and their stripclub rates consequently high).

But if you want an example of the rate for an individual scene: Brit porn girl Roxy Jezel filmed her first anal scene in America early last year. Anabolic had offered her $1,200 which she turned down. Red Light District made an offer of $2,000 which she accepted (for a b/b/g anal). This was obviously a special rate - "her first anal scene" being the big draw printed on the boxcover - but it gives you some kind of idea. I'm not revealing any secrets here - Roxy talks to camera about her agreed fee (and the rejected Anabolic offer) during the scene!

Autolycus...it is also worth factoring into the equation that models, in my experience, very rarely pay income tax, in some cases legally and in some cases illegally. Also widen the scope to Eastern Europe where the good models earn ?250 to ?350 per DAY and work a lot in an economy where ?50 or ?60 per WEEK (In the case of Hungary) is an average wage you can see that they are earning extremely good money.

Being self employed and registered for vat with a ?56000 threshold doesn't equate to profit, out of this has to come expenses, travel accomodation etc.,

On a different note how do others deal with models not providing reciepts, after all if you pay a girl ?400, you pay tax at 40% this means it's actually costing ?560 as you are unable to claim it as a business expense.

There are good reason to register for VAT if you earn less than ?56,000 a year. Registering for VAT indicates nothing about income.

Try ?30K for a copper...

Post by JackHorny »

And that's basic... - when I saw the application pack a couple of years ago the basic for a qualified copper was ?28K - and then lots of overtime to boot...
I retired when I sadly realised nobody wanted me!

There's a space on my model release for the amount paid, and a paragraph stating the model is entirely responsible for all taxes due on the amount.

This is sufficient to act as a reciept, as I found out this week when the tax man accepted them as proof of payment. I'm at the moment subjest to a random tax investigation, so apologies to any models who shot with me between 10/01 and 9/02 if they get asked why they haven't declared their earnings.
We have need of you again, great king.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a thing called compulsory de-registration? i.e. if you earn less than the threshold for more than 3 consecutive v.a.t. accounting periods (9 months, ?42k) then you are automatically de-registered for v.a.t.? I think I'm right in saying its compulsory.

No, a lot of VAT registered businesses are below the registration threshold. If all your customers are VAT registered you gain because you can reclaim the VAT on your purchases without losing the price advantage with your customers.
