michelle thorne virtual sex dvd probs!

Post by pj »

Anyone have any problems with the new dvd? Got mine this morning and while disc 2 is okay as regardswitching between menus etc, disc 1 is atrocious. It freezes on me completely.

I've contacted Yourchoice in Holland about a replacement, as I ordered it from them, so I'll keep you informed of their response. I'm not blaming them, just the authorship of the dvd.

Hi PJ,

Sorry to hear you had problems with the Virtual Michelle.

We had similar problems with most of our players. That's why I mentioned onthe script "NOTE: Due to the density of information, you DO need a modern DVD player."

It's all down to the bit rate, therefore most likely a replacement would be exactly the same.

Assuring you of the best possible attention at all times.

This is indeed a problem for the older players!

What you can also try (helps in 70% of the players) if you have a computer
with a dvd-rom player, is play it on the computer and after that in the dvd player again!

What happens is that another type of laser is touching the dvd and that seems to fix a lot of trouble!

Good Luck!

Can't see that argument holding any truth at all. Since the DVD specifications were announced by the DVD Forum on April 10 and 11, 1996, the specification of the bitrate allowed for compatible mpeg video has not changed.
I am avideo editor by profession and I also author DVDs so its my business to know the technicalities behind it.

I have taken the liberty of pasting below the allowed bitrates for any instance of DVD-compatible mpeg files below.

The fact of the matter is that any DVD containing video files that fall outside of these specifications will be breaking the law by bearing the DVD-Video logo as it does not fit the requirements. Just because many modern DVD players are more tolerant to out-of-spec discs does not make it right. Its like selling a CD full of mp3 files and calling it a COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO then when anyone asks why it wont play on their normal CD player telling them, get a modern one that will play it.

Specifications:

PAL

Video:
Up to 9.8 Mbps* (9800 kbps*) MPEG2 video
Up to 1.856 Mbps (1856 kbps) MPEG1 video
720 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Full-D1)
704 x 576 pixels MPEG2
352 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Half-D1, same as the CVD Standard)
352 x 288 pixels MPEG2
352 x 288 pixels MPEG1 (Same as the VCD Standard)
25 fps*
16:9 Anamorphic (only supported by 720x576)

Audio:
48000 Hz
32 - 1536 kbps
Up to 8 audio tracks containing Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM(uncompressed audio), MPEG-1 Layer2. One audio track must have MPEG-1, DD or PCM Audio.

Extras:
Motion menus, still pictures, up to 32 selectable subtitles, seamless branching for multiple storylines, 9 camera angles.

Total:
Total bitrate including video, audio and subs can be max 10.08 Mbps (10080 kbps)

* Mbps = million bits per second
* kbps = thousand bits per second
* fps = frames per second

NTSC (NTSC Film)

Video:

29,97 fps*
23,976 fps with 3:2 pulldown = 29,97 playback fps (NTSC Film, this is only supported by MPEG2 video)

Sorry MJ you are chatting nonesense. The laser makes no physical contact with the disc surface. The disc simply reflects the light that is beamed at it.
Does your mirror show your face differently if you shine a blue light on it first, than it does when you shine a red light on it first?

Thank you Steven for the compliment of chatting nonsense!

I also do editing and authoring!

and as strange as it sounds my option does work!

I had the same response as you did, and did not believe it at first!

Hi PJ,
I also got a copy of the Michelle Virtual and it works like a charm on my standalone DVD-player and on my Mac also. But I am experiencing some delay when switching angles on my second cheap-ass standalone player.
(I experienced it also on some other non-adult multi-angle DVD's using this particular player, for example the Metallica's concert DVD with the San Francisco Orchestra).

What brand/type is your DVD-player? It seems like some of them have more difficulties playing these kind of discs.
Maybe, that's why Jay@yourchoice.co.uk stated:
We had similar problems with most of our players
Otherwise, it seems like a faulty disc in your case.

As to Steven's first reply, the bit-rate meter on my player indicates an average bit-rate of 5 Mbit/sec and topping (give or take) 7.2 Mbit/sec.
Reading your post, I assume that bitrate is well within the specs you've mentioned?
