Im with Mick 100% as well. My apologies to Harry Hardon for implying it was him alone sniping about fees.
Mick is a producer, and a bloody good bloke, and as far as Im concerned, what he asks for is not morally wrong.
Put it like this, you'd happily pay for a venue for your own personal use, whether its a function or a social party without any qualms, so why should Mick have to pay out anymore than the gals appearences?

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

Eduardo,

For a one-on-one shoot, things might be different such as back up models and the like.

In this thread, I'm discussing about guys being asked to take part in a group shoot only to find that they have to pay a contribuion to cover the filming whilst the final video is resold for.

Regards

Harry

I take it your post was directed at me and yes I do think it is okay to take money of the guys before the shoot.

If you read carefully you will also see reference to a point about the guys being given their money back when they turn up.

You say it's not right to take money of guys who are newbies but I have asked this question twice before and you have ducked out answering it.

Would you pay out your own money in advance to organise a shoot, with all the expenses involved to invite a (group of or a single) guy(s) to attend who you have never met before and have no idea as to there reliability. If they don't show you are out of pocket big time.

So would you?

I know I wouldn't for definite but thats just my opinion.

And before anyone else thinks that I believe the guys should n't be paid thats not my point. Of course the guys should be paid. My point is aimed at new guys, new to the game who have no referal. Take a deposit of them and if they turn and do it, give it back to them, pay them expenses, whatever, but I don't think that it's unreasonable to ask someone to pay up front who's new to the game.

It's my opinion. Whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong it's still my opinion.

I wasn't ducking the issue I thought the opinions I put forward in my last post would make it clear what my answer was but if not I will make it clearer. If I had decided to make a film , or do a shoot then yes I would be prepared to go ahead. I may make provisions by having back-ups in case the first choice doesnt turn up. But I would never expect someone starring in a film or working on a photoshoot to pay for the privelidge of helping me make money.

And all your comments are about the guy not turning up but what about a female model making her first ever appearance. Would you charge her beforehand aswell ? Or are you saying that only men fail to turn up

Dont EVER pay!

If anyone asks a girl or guy for money to perform in a film then the chance are you won't see your money again.
As a producer myself, you have to take your chances with new blokes, but more often than not, you take the time to audition and meet people and once a bloke gets to know that you're not going to take a megaphone, shout ACTION!, now HARD ON'S at the ready! then they will relax and be able to perform.

Guys definately do not pay, if I were you. If the producer is respectable enough then they'll have enough money in the kitty that if a scene goes pear shaped then they can re-shoot.

Personally I think its not on and, as someone said earlier, if you ever needed a reason why the porn industry in this country is in the state it is and will never improve then this is a perfect example. In what other branch of performing arts would a producer expect performers to pay so they can make money? Great I guess if you can get away with it I suppose.......

On a final note, its bad enough that you expect the guys to turn up at their own expense including travelling and certificates etc and subsequently make you money and not pay them for that (cos lets face it without the guys a handjob movie would be a little dull!) but to then expect them to pay YOU is just taking the piss!

To be fair it wasn't Mick who wanted guys for the Hand Job movie isn't the one charging guys for it. It was Eduardo who said charging men was justified, but he never says why a first time guy whould be charged and not a first time girl

I made the point about the female models before as well and I stated that I'm sure that some haven't turned up as well.

No, if I were a producer(and I'll state again that I'm not) I would not charge the girl beforehand. Would I use a new(by new I mean totally new) girl then the answer is no I wouldn't.

This is a girls based business (I believe). It's the girls who sell the films and as such the guys are the 2nd class citizens in it. Is that fair, no of course not but then life's not fair is it.

I stand by what I say, I would make a new guy pay upfront a deposit of ?150 and then if he turns and does it then he'd get his dough back.

Is this industry standard? I have no idea I'm not in it but I believe having thought about it this morning that the producer who was swamped on this board for guys looking to make there debut in films was Ben Dover and he was the guy(I think) who was on about the money up front.

If I'm wrong about the producer then I apologise in advance Ben but I have a recollection about this topic from the previous posts.

Read my posts and read them carefully mate. I didn't say it was fair to charge the new guys a fee to appear in the films. I did however say that it was fair to charge them in advance a deposit to cover costs in cae they don't show or can't perform.

It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it as much as you are entitled to yours.

Read this thread which says that Ben charges guys to audition.

I'm not saying it's right but what I am saying is that I fully understand why he does it.
