Chrysler/Talbot Horizon. A French car.
Produced 1978 to 79 under Chrysler name, then 79 to 84 under Talbot name, although models sold in 1985 are sometimes seen.
Early models have chrome bumpers, and later ones plastic bumpers.
It was based on the Simca 1100 running gear and used the same engine as the Simcas. Available in 1100cc, 1300cc, 1500cc. Engines had serious problems with tappett noise but were powerful for the capacities and my 1980 1100cc model could go straight up to 85mph and sit there all day if required.
In USA sold under the name Dodge Omni, with a ridiculous 3200cc engine, and fat bumpers for safety regulations.
In 1984 the Talbot Horizon Mk 2 was almost realy for release, but Peugeot who had taken over Talbot decided to hijack the model and release it as the Peugeot 309 as they had a gap in their range. This is the reason why early Peugeout 309 1100 and 1300cc models can be found with the same old Simca engines until Peugeot got round to adapting it to take their own engines. Also explains why the 309 dis not have a number ending in 05 (there was already a Peugeot 305) as all the other peugeots did at the time, and styling is not inkeeping with the rest of the Peugeot range of the time.
