How does the treatment of Playboy square with the recent 18 cert given to 9 Songs for theatrical release. Actual sex on the big screen at last, just seems that once again the UK is at odds with itself, and maybe instead of throwing up their hands and asking for a whopping fine our broadcasters should try taking on the sad establishment trolls.
Still, looking back I don?t seem to remember the major distributors taking on the authority figures over the R18 certification fight. In fact it has to be said that the BBFC have probably done more for the cause of legal porn than anyone else, James Ferman in particular. Strange!
As to programs on our ?encrypted? channels, dire is a word that comes to mind, once again the lowest common denominator seems to rule the day, or could it just be money again. Discussing the state of the industry with Officer Dibble this week the poor chap nearly fainted into his Lobster souffl? at the mention of real tits, hair in the right place and girls who didn?t spit on your dick.
Phil Mac! I have tried to work out just what you are doing Jim but as usual you leave me baffled. If it?s any use to you I have 40 titles available, all action, most in focus and all waiting to be seen by the public at large. Give me a call unless it?s gonna cost me money!

My compliments to the chef Rem, the lobster was excellent. So, er, I move that we increase the frequency of our summit meetings and convene on a regular basis - well, there's so much to discuss in today?s rapidly evolving porno scene, innit?
Officer Dibble - Never pass up a lavish lunch

Re: Ofcom fine Playboy ?25000 + European Union aspect
I think Playboy would not have stood a chance in winning against Ofcom over the recent R18 debarkle because R18 is very clearly prohibited in the ITC (and now) Ofcom programme code. Having said that it will be interesting to see what happens in May. I believe that Ofcom will allow R18 on subscription only chanels, but if they don't that would be the time to take action against them not now.
The reason being that the Communications Act states that the code of the legacy regulators remains in force until a new code is put in place by Ofcom. But after the new broadcasting code is put in place the ghost of taste and decency will finaly be laid to rest and Ofcom will have very different set of legal issues to battle with such as 'generaly accepted standards must be applied', children must be 'protected' and in my opinion a key issue, 'consistent, proportionate and transparent regulation is to be applied at ALL times'. The realy important point here is that these are now legal requirements in statute law that can be challenged in court by judicial review.
